you owe it to yourself to check out http://www.fookes.com for easy thumbnails. tom your life is about to get wayyyy easier. I've used this for a couple years now and find it awesome - especially for creating video from SU.
Output animation as huge jpegs from SU, then thumbnail them to the appropriate size in a batch - takes no time at all with this app, then use virtual dub to create animation (avi) from the jpeg series... cut in some audio using Atmosphere deluxe (thanks to Alan Booth on that one!) and presto!

    • RE: Too Radical?

Geeez, I would hate to have everything mixed together.. I like the organization - maybe because I don't have any! It is nice to have the latest posts link - I find that the most useful - actually here it is more useful because it is unread threads that show up - not all the latest.. that rocks.

I like the social stuff - as you have likely noticed - but being here and seeing some of the posted work is spurring me on to get out of my rut and do something cool - only time will tell if action is taken, but I like the techincal aspect too.

Cool - now can we be friends again?
<also - it would be cool if anyone has tips about this forum or where we could learn what all the features were - to post that .. I didn't know about the show last posts on the old forum for so long - it made life so much easier..>

    • Let's be friends! (and can I have a secret power?)

Well, well, well... lots of you just made friends with me and you don't even know it. Some of you I don't think I've even talked to directly (Barry BAZ etc..) but I put a number of you on my friends list - that way I can go in user control panel and see if you are online or not - and I would suspect I could send out a group PM too possibly... I am really glad to see all 'yall here and I had a few more surprises when I looked at the last few names that signed up.. especially near the end of the list πŸ˜„
      <I'm still watching for Grant Marshall!!!> πŸ˜„

Come closer - yeah you.. shhh - here's the deal though - I need you to select my profile and put me on your "foe" list.. I'm wondering what it does.. .will it give me super powers... or will it just make you ignore me??? just do it.. I promise if I do get powers, you and I will rule THE WORLD!!! HAHAHAHAHhhhahahah haha

<erm... keep it professional you say... okay - sorry about that.. I'll have to reign in tighter - but I do wonder what happens on the foe list.>

      Dean,
Personally I don't care how many we get - I've just perused the members list, and for this 136, the list couldn't be stronger of heavy hitters and often contributors.. and now that we know Tom looks like father Christmas - why would you want to be anywhere else! πŸ˜„

hard to argue with that Alan. My experience has been similar, less vigourous, and for less time. But I'm happy on PC

I voted PC. I would have voted mac, but the 13 pc's in my spare room wouldn't let me. All run 2000 or XP pro

I have to say, that all looks really cool, although I'm not sure I'd want it for my work all the time, I may find it distracting. Ross thanks for the original link, Lewis, thanks for the case link.. I really liked that too.

    • RE: ITunes on Wii

Yeah, Kris - Itunes is just like Windows media player or Winamp. Organise your tunes, make playlists, sync to your media device or stream media, and there is a store component to purchase songs, but the actual player and service is free. The only thing that costs is content, and you pay per just like you would at a store, the only difference is iTunes download is much faster than going to a store, you can get one or two tracks instead of the whole CD and sometimes the music you buy is digitally protected, can only be burned a couple of times etc...

    • RE: ITunes on Wii

      Kris,
I never pay anything for iTunes. I use it to play all my music, rip my CD's and sync my iPod. I also use it do get free podcasts of things like national geographic news and the Pigeon John Podcast. I have bought music on itunes, but only about 6 songs. This requires a credit card and account, I would suspect the very same on wii. I think this is just to run the iTunes program on the wii... yes, you can pay for content to be sent to you on iTunes, but it doesn't require any financial input for most of it's operation.

As for why you would want to fiddle with your wii (ahem!) set up an interface on the wii, and stream your audio library to your TV, so you can set up your game system to play music instead of games - well, I guess you would do it because you can?

    • RE: ITunes on Wii

Kris - what is illegal about what Cheffey is linking to - is it hacking the wii that would be wrong? please don't misread this, I am just not seeing the illegal angle. Itunes is just a player, wii - I don't know tonnes about, but I assume that the web browsing is part of the dealio.

More than not understanding the potential illegality, I don't understand why you would want itunes on your wii. Does the wii have much of a hard drive (or any at all?) or would it be to stream from the web? I don't really get why you'd want to do that other than (as mentioned by Kris) that you could. Cheffey - maybe you can help me understand, as I don't have a wii, and have a full 7.1 system hooked up at the same place as my TV - so I don't get the music part (as I have a stereo/DVD player/iPod/CD changer at my disposal).

Kris - you've got to help me with the illegal part.

    • RE: External Hardrives?

not much to add to this, but a friend just bought a seagate and found that the free software that they provide was the only thing that would allow him to copy exactly everything from his drive, and swap it out so that he could just boot straight from the new drive - that's not what you are trying to do, but might help the search.

Eric, that was really cool - quite the woodwork, everytime I opened the page though - the ads covered half of the blog and pictures... so i couldn't really fully appreciate the post as I would have liked to. I'm on the laptop right now, so I'll check with a different machine later...

    • Optimus Keyboard Pre-Orders Soon!

Okay - someone who has tonnes of money, order one of these so we can all drool!
      http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus/

If you haven't heard of this yet - have a look here first:
      http://www.artlebedev.com/everything/optimus-concept/

Now I know that we all know most of our shortcuts, but imagine you have SU, Photoshop and your rendering program open. In SU, all your keys will show your shortcuts, then switch to your renderer, and all keys magically change (please note - no magic used - just OLED) to your rendering icons for shortcuts, then finish off in Photoshop where (you get the idea)

Before you get too exited (like I did), If I remember the cost of these little suckers will be a few Thou.... well, waiting to see what one of you thinks after getting one of the first ones! πŸ˜„
