Here too: awesome job on the great variety on wheels and even more respect that you share it all ๐Ÿ‘

Did you make the wheels as dynamic components so you can easily modify the with/height?

I'm also stunned by your texturing qualities.
Do you use special UV-/texture plugins for this or just all nstandard SU-tools?

Must admit that you inspire me in car design and diversity ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Way to deep for my pockets too, but in figurine-world, the prices are all absurd.
But, in this absurd world, this 500 is quite a good price, seeing the sice and options for more stances and quality (3A is one of the best producers).

It is gonna be quite a project indeed ๐Ÿ˜„
Hoped to get it done without using Artisan. Not beacause not liking Artisan/SS (loving it!) but because the models exists of alot of fases and vertexes if modeled in full detail, it will turn out very complex all together.
In this I hoped 'Round corners' would help me out if I kept it al in quads.

Yesteday thought it all through and realised SS-ing couldn't be avoided if I want it to render real nice.
'Just' have to think of some solutions and explore new techniques that are out there.
      Never stop learning ๐Ÿ˜„

      Thx ๐Ÿ‘

Your problems with smoothing the surface/lines is not unknown to me. The only thing I can say on that subject: don't give up and try, try and try again. A 'bit' of patience is the only must have ๐Ÿ˜„

Did you tried the e-books from Elisei?
They help a great deal and brings alot of light in de darkened world of car-/organic modeling ๐Ÿ’ญ

      @unknownuser said:

you seem to go from about a zillion polys to a much more reasonable number, how do you do that?

      Do you mean from this

      http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7099/7358497392_311286e4ef_b.jpg

      to this

      http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7098/7358497214_c144edd879_b.jpg

      ?

      If so: I don't ๐Ÿ˜„
I build it all in the 'simple' style and SS it from time to time to check the progress and results and then undo (ctrl-z is your best friend ๐Ÿ˜„ )it.
Before EVERY SS action I save my file (save copy as...), cause you never now if SU may crash or not ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
I also make a variety of files with different functions, so they don't bite eachother. I.e. a file for building in simple meshes, a file for the SS'd parts and a file for the SS'd parts wich need altering like lowering/tilting/painting.

      @unknownuser said:

Also, on the same subject, how the heck do you get it to work on an object without affecting the edges of it, shrinking it all out of shape?

Every line you want to become/stay an edge after SS, you dubbelline it ๐Ÿ˜‰

See pic below and look carefully at the edge from the cover and you'll see it's dubbellined.

      http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8024/7513598718_7d3856cb4e_b.jpg

The closer the two lines are together, the sharper the edge will be.

Hope this filled a bit of void in that great thinking machine of yours ๐Ÿ˜„ and keeps you challenging using Artisan and become a great carmodeler โ—

    • Metal Gear Rex

Wanted to start a new project with some diffulties and searched for days, till it hit me:
My all time favorite robot/mech: Metal Gear Rex from the Metal Gear Solid game-series ๐Ÿ˜Ž

After I decided it could be a good kandidate for a new project, I was worried I couldn't find enough pictures and such to transfer it to my own model.
Lucky me: big figurine producer 3A just anounced and released (?) a full on Metal Gear Rex figure in full detail and with working joints so there is enough info to go on.

I intend to model/render it in full detail. So first up is the modeling of all the pieces, parts and plates and then detailing all the stuff. It's gonna take a while, but the greater the reward ๐Ÿ˜Ž

      Time to start then ๐Ÿ˜„

Should turn up something like this

      Wow! Well done!

Would you explain more about the plug-ins, please. I'm already considering buying Artisan, but you also mentioned Tools on Surface?

      Thx!

Tools on Surface is a free plugin and makes you draw lines on connected curved faces, wich makes it way more easy the the standard SU linetools. Check the topic, give it a quick search ๐Ÿ˜‰

When did I used it in my model?
To make detailed components on an object. E.g.: When I completed the general outline and shapes of the door, I used Tools on Surface the put in the doorhandle and -lock.

I would also strongly recommend to get the modelingbooks from Elisei, if you're thinking about picking up carmodeling ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm mainly using Artisan, but also a lot 'Tools on surface', as for plugins.

      ToDo

      • Render Enviroment
      • Windowsprayers (?)
      • Wipers
      • Sunroof
      • Antenna
      • Logo
      • Detailed headlight
      • Detailed taillight

Prepping the model to export to TheaRender.
Also still have to come up with a good enviroment. An HDRI is a good way, but was also thinking about modeling an underground parkinglot with some nice, 'hard' lighting.
      Any advise on this one?
