You can export a dxf or stl from Sketchup and import that into Solidworks, but that doesn't usually cut it for injection molding. You either have to rebuild it in Solidworks, or try Spaceclaim to convert to IGES or STEP.

Here's mode about using Sketchup and Spaceclaim: a Youtube video
      Sketchupdate blog post.

Thanks, that was my conclusion too - Spaceclaim is only Windows though.
Is there any tips for making the transfer from sketch up to Solidworks easier, I have to translate my idea's to the product designer and an awful lot of time has already gone into it for it to be a redraw

but hey solidworks is only windows as far as I know.... rhino has open beta for Mac so that maybe your salvation.

      Hi there

I find the best route would be via Rhino. Here is the link which explains how to take it from rhino to solidworks. You have ability in Rhino to to resurface it and use nurbs. To bring it to rhino I would sugest either .obj or .dwg.

      hope it helps

This looks very good and I do not have problem of viewing it on 27" screen. How hard/easy was it to make. I am in need to set up my own site and really can't make decision which way to go. How about hosting it? Did you have problem to load up with your host provider? Any particular problems , please do share.

I would recommend boot-camp. I run it on my mac book pro, desktop pro and Imac 27". It works really good and you do not have any lagging which people experience due to sharing RAM.

Hmmm this is what I was afraid of. It looks fine for my W7 comps but dire for 3 Vista based comps.

      Do I understand this correctly:

      1. If you have XP update will wipe out all software on your comp?
      2. If you have Vista it will wipe out your all software?
      3. If you have Windows7 it will only update and leave all installed software in place?

      Could somebody please clarify this.

      Cheers

What a great game, England beats Sweden 3:2 in an action packed game, I liked seeing England fighting and not sitting back, personally I expected England to have beaten Sweden easily, but the Swedes refused to concede, once again brilliant game to watch.

This one is different than powder fusing 3 d printers like zcorp ones. We have zcorp in our department and yes it need drying period than audition of glue....kind of tedious. This seems different.

In windows Vectorworks screen shot you are showing docked pallets... If you undock them they look the same as on mac. Granted there are no coloured minimise, close and expand.
And x is no different to x on mac....
More importantly the icons are same one does not need to learn new software....
Jeff let us agree to disagree.... If you were not over the pond I would have asked you to meet up for pint. πŸ˜†

I gave you an example of VectorWorks.... The reason why I am pushing this is simple. A lot of studios have mixture of computers macs and pc.... it just make sense.

    • Affordable 3D printer

The future is here . Affordable printer ready to print http://cubify.com/cube/
It prints using abs material which is usable for spare parts and makes short runs of products almost affordable. Retail price is $1300 and I believe it is possible to get it for as little as $800.

      Chill guys!

I do own a Mac but would not dare do any real work on it as it's so unstable and frankly too weak for 3D, not forgetting not really supported by all the apps I use, however if a gun was put to my temple and had to use it I'd like the UI of the apps to be exactly like my PC version, that way support does not need to be tailored to platform or tutorials to be made separately to cover different OS's etc.

      Just a thought

      exactly my point 😎

Twilight gui looks same on mac...if not broken do not mend it
So you've had a chance to look at the Mac beta? If its the same as the existing Windows GUI - then it sounds like it's more just testing compatibility than any grand sort of re-design. Which makes this whole "I'm a true Mac user" seem rather OT... There's only so many ways to dress up those five buttons πŸ˜’

Andybot I am not sure how to read your reply.
I certainly do not think I am true Mac user, I like macs because of build quality. As hardware they are behind pc in general but well built computers. The whole hoo ha mac thing does not impress me.

Yes, twi GUI is same on mac side apart that you have additional option to import material libraries directly from GUI. Guys at Twi did great job so far. There is nothing wrong with existing GUI. It is intuitive and easy to get grasp of.
I would agree there I s only so many ways to skin the cat.
