Im right with you there on the mixed media. A render is in my opinion not finished after some proper post processing in Photoshop or some other image editing program.

And I know where you are coming from. When taking a photograph light defines everything you see. Even when I paint (though be it digitally) it's not material you are painting, no you are actually painting light itself, not objects. Something I came to realise when I went deeper into matte painting and space art.

I remember myself trying to sketch several objects on my desk without looking at them and trying to visualise different light sources.

However if you are experiencing troules with kerky and it's interface I recommend V-Ray for Sketchup. I creates photorealistic images, and it is the industry standard render app. It comes with a GREAT manual which will run you through the basics. I got the app down within 3 days. And can get amazing results out of it now. a 30 day trial is available on their site.

And you say you that this is straight SU output, not one from a render program such as Kerky of Vray? And that all the effects are done in PS?

If so mad Props to your PS work! Amazing. Especially your insight in lighting! Very nice.

I only had that happen to me once, I was a passenger in my uncle's car it was something like this car:

      http://www.miljobil.no/images/renault_kangoo/kangoo2.jpg

Well no problem with that car it doesn't go all that fast or anything, does accelerate fast.

However my uncle was a pro-go cart driver, and he drove some serious carts back in his day, and that driving style he adopted during his career of go-carting found it's way into his normal driving style.

When we took that roundabout he was near the edge of a drift, and I mean VERY much near the edge, and he was actually gaining on several cars on that roundabout, he managed to find his way from the most left lane to the utmost right line (four lanes) during some pretty heavy traffic in that 3/4 of a circle we were making on that roundabout. It wasn't even that big of a roundabout and he slammed on it with 80kmph, I nearly shit myself then. But he had full control all of the time it was so awesome πŸ˜„

"The best is a "rain demo". In the rain, the tires slip very predictively and can actually maximize the car's acceleration without being overwhelmed with all wheel traction. In other words, I can slide the car, and while all fours wheels slide in a drift, the turbo continues to spool smoothly and when the tires completely hook up, the turbo is at full spool at max torque...it's like being shoved sideways and then shot off an aircraft carrier!! She's a good car!

The way you describe it already gives me that; shift and burn rubber feeling, sounds more than awesome. πŸ˜„

Yeah you can damage some tips which simulate fine liner, and markers and such but the good old wacom tip is pretty much bastard proof. Heck I could know I love chewing on it with my front teeth πŸ˜›

    • RE: Is a tablet useful?

Tablet is THE nr1 choise when working in Photoshop, I don't touch my mouse when working with Photoshop, it just lacks accuracy.

However I have never done any 3D with a tablet, I tried, just does not work for me, I need my mouse. I have a pretty hefty mosue with a lot of customisable buttons which I use for 3D modelling which I just can't miss. So for me it is mouse for 3D tablet 2D. I even use my tablet in Acad.

If you are going to buy a tablet, buy a wacom. They are pretty much bastard proof, industry standard, great support and they are styled very nicely.
Just my 2 cents on this matter πŸ˜„.

No way, cellphone blockage is a no go for me. I can't imagine living without my phone anymore. I get about 30-40 emails a day, be it uni or work or personal related. There is no way I want to miss them because my cellphone and thuss inet signal is blocked by some jackass who thinks his peace is more important than my mail.

These things are and indeed should be illegal, yes I know it's annoying when someone sits in a traincoupe and starts talking loudly on his or her cellphone, foreign people have a tendency to do this. Talking in a different language and above that also talking very loudly. But you are sitting in the same coupe as them I mean you have a choise where you sit. There are a lot of places where cellphone usage is restricted in public.

Myself I speak in a low voice and my cellphone is always on triple vibrate and then it starts ringing. And I have a reasonably decent ringtone, not one of those annoying ones. So when someone calls me other people won't be bothered I make sure of that. Partially because I want my conversation to be personal. So not everyone has to hear it.

Though buying a blocker is not done, I mean for those who want peace and no noise, go to a restaurant that does not allow cellphone usage in the restaurant. For a train go sit in the silent coupe. etc etc. There are ways around these jerks. Though taking right in your own hands and blocking their signal makes you the yerk in my opinion.

      Edit:

What I find to be more annoying is little children that just won't shut up when told, or who keep crying the whole frakking train ride. Or banging the back of your seat. Now that should be illegal πŸ˜›. A roll of duct tape is going to be my new babyshower gift. πŸ˜›

I also got it to work for 2 curves not for 4 at once.

      @ sorgesu:

I just used the script on a new model of mine, no problems with errors what so ever worked like a charm and saved me ALOT of work. And it connected two manually drawn curves in no time, after I set the curves in I was done within a minute or so. Amazing script, I will use this script in the future for sure.

      @ ypnos:

No problem I always enjoy sharing my background, though the cold facts do sounds a lot better than it actually was. I had to work hard to get to the point where I am at now.

Talent has little to do with it I think??

I had to learn everything bymyself, I didn't had the help of great fora like this one with people who are very motivated to help. I had to do it myself which is a long and hard route to take. Im what you call an autodidact going through manuals and tutorials without any interaction with fellow artists and active feedback. Difficult but you get to understand a program MUCH better not faster unfortunately. So it will pay out in the end.

I still remember when I started drawing, it was in elementary school, I was in the 5th grade I believe, out of the 8 that is. And I was totally excited that I had discovered single point perspective all by myself (didn't even know what it was called back then πŸ˜›). I still think back to that moment to remember what it was that motivated me to teach all that stuff myself. I can't recommend everyone the same path but it'll sure help you get grips on Graphical Design and the tools involved with that.

And I have seen your work ypnos, you are also more than a talented guy, glad we have you here! Don't you dare be jealous of me!

Yeah ypnos big thumbs up for the script thank you!

My background pff now that’s a hard one:

I started out with non digital design such as painting and drawing when I was 12, around when I was 14 I started digital design; I got all my basics down back then: everything from Photoshop to Illustrator to After Effects. When I was good enough I started doing some art commissions mostly posters and display boards and such. When I was about 16 I picked up 3D again got all my basics down in the first 3 months or so; maya, 3dsmax, vue, rhino, cinema4d you name it I used probably.

About 1.5 year ago I picked up Sketchup got it down within no time and really enjoyed it, got to know of FormFonts through Coen, after 6 months into SU and got in. Now I have been working for FormFonts for a year.

And so far I have done 2 years of Architecture at the Technical University of Delft.

And I am currently 20 years old yes πŸ˜›.
Think that about covers it. But trust me I have seen people which I am more than jealous of, people who make me look average. The higher you get the more difficult it gets to exceed in what you do. Trust me on this one πŸ˜›.

      But thanks for the interest!

ypnos you forgot the attachment πŸ˜›, I would love to see it. As for the pad, I rotated the section planes and did quite an amount of stitching and made a lot of corrections by eye later on. So it's partially a lot of experience modelling.

I mustve done more than 200 models similar like this one by now, so I know what I am doing and I keep improving my methods, but this method is something I always come back to, sorta like a basis, I often also use the stitchings of the curve with a follow me and so on. A mental connection also doesn't exist for me I just model πŸ˜› if you want to put it into term I would put it like: I see the whole thing like a ball of clay with structure. Nothing is impossible that is what you have to keep in mind.

    • RE: Fritz Hansen - Space Chair

To be honest I have not worked with the sandbox tools At All, so I have no idea, I'll have to try that soon, though what I am looking for is a ruby script that can make faces out of the grid I set up, that would save me a lot of work, I have tried converting the cruves I set up to a single curve and then using the curve stitcher but then you got a proper mess so thats not an option.

But I will have a look at the sandbox option. And if anyone knows of a script to stitch a grid I would be more than happy to know about this.

      Thanks!

For all the haters our there a quick tut πŸ˜›, it might be a little iffy here and there but thats because I slammed this out in 10 min and its 7:30 AM now and I haven't slept so far.

This is the way I do these difficult chairs/dual-curved stuff...
The amount of control incredible with this technique, though it's time consuming.

      Anyway enjoy!
