    • RE: [Plugin] ExtrudeTools - Full Set

I ran into an issue w/ the lathe tool. Seems sometimes it doesn't put the starting and ending faces on the lathed object. Pics attached. The face created consists of 2 edges and 1 arc. I've tried making them all curves and even welding them all into one big arc to no avail. The fix is simple. I'm ok w/ it but thought I'd bring it up.

Thanks Tig for all the great tools you've made and maintained over the years! Your work is heartily appreciated!! πŸ‘

[edit] Using SU Make 2017 for Windows

shows mesh before create. Vertical line is chosen axis of rotation

      Shows mesh post-create

Shows fixed mesh and lines that had to be added to fix it.

    • RE: [Plugin] HoverSelect - v1.5a - 07 Oct 17

Recently discovered this plugin. It installs and the menu items are there but I am not seeing the toolbar. It's turned on in the settings for the tool. I'm on SU 2017.

[edit] Clarification Note: It's not showing in the toolbars list nor displaying anything on the screen.

    • RE: [Plugin] Loader for Rotated Rect, Circle and Box [6/14/12]

Sketchup 2016 required some modifying to get this to work (Windows 7). This loader would not run for me. To fix, I had to first install this extension from the warehouse. Next, I had to install the rotated box and cylinder tools from the warehouse. Third, I had to rename/delete the .rb files in the 3Pts_Tools folder and replace them w/ the installed copies from my plugins folder. Those copies do NOT have the same name(3Pts_Tools puts a 'M' on the end of the file names) so you have to make sure you name the .rb's w/ that M on the end or edit the loader .rb to reflect the lack of an 'M' in the file name. Restart sketchup and the toolbar should appear.

This set of steps will suffice until a new package w/ the up-to-date .rb's is posted. I did NOT attempt to do rotated rectangle as sketchup comes with that tool built in as of Sketchup 2015.

I recently updated to the latest version (Sketchup 😎

SketchUp 8 isn't even close to the latest version. Before going on, why don't you really install the latest version which is SketchUp 2014?

      @Dave
Apparently I wasn't clear. I updated to the latest version of Curvizard. I know sketchup 8 isn't the latest sketchup.

@Fredo - Thanks for the reply...

    • RE: [Plugin][$] Curvizard - v2.5a - 01 Apr 24

I recently updated to the latest version (Sketchup 😎 and I'm having difficulties. The previous version (honestly not sure which one I had) allowed me to pre-select any edge or edges, launch the tool from the toolbar, exit the tool and they would be immediately converted to a curve. VERY handy, quick and intuitive.

Since I upgraded to 1.8a (w/ libFredo6 6.0b), things seem to not work as expected. Take the attached pic as an example.
      screenshot_cvz_ex1.png

It shows a simple object that is 3 edges created w/ the rectangle tool. The 4th edge was erased and replaced w/ an arc pointing in the Blue direction. It may be tough to see in the screenshot but 2 of the edges are on the green and red axis respectively.

In any event, If I select one of the straight edges and launch curvizard's weld function from the GUI or the context menu, it welds all 3 edges + the curve into one big curve rather than turning the pre-selected edge only into a curve.

If I use the GUI to manually select that edge after launching (even though it was pre-selected), it will convert it but the arc gets exploded into it's component parts even though the arc wasn't pre-selected. If I then weld the arc back to together, the previously converted edge reverts from a curve back to an edge. None of this happened w/ the previous version I was using. It's very frustrating.

The only way I have managed to get around this problem is to copy any edge I want to transform away from the other geometry then run curvizard's weld function, then delete the original edge and replace it w/ the one now made into a curve.

What happened in between? What has changed? Am I doing something wrong with the new version? This seems far more cumbersome than it was before...

      I'd appreciate any advice...

      Thanks,
      Rilian

<Edit> I should note that I just discovered that if I launch the plugin Without any preselected edges, then select only one of the straight edges seen in the attached pic, it transforms correctly w/o breaking the arc into segments. Why doesn't preselection do the same?

It is behaving as it is meant to. The relationship between the shape, the straight line and the curve are what determines the resultant bend.

You can change the position when in preview by using the arrow keys.

I did use the arrow keys multiple times before posting. Based on your reply, I moved the straight line to match the back edge of my object and then the plugin behaved as I saw in the examples...perfectly matched to the curve. See first screenshot attached to this post. Pressing the down arrow key gives the 2nd screenshot...a bit wonky. Pressing down arrow again, returns back to first screenshot. Pressing up arrow moves the curve above and below the curved line as expected.

These curves were generated from using the arc tool 2x. Once to draw an arc exactly 1/2 the distance between my guides and then a 2nd tangent arc the rest of the way to the guide.

I thought I saw in the videos attached to the first post where the line was not attached to the object but floating in front or behind and the bent object still matched the curve rather than generate the results I saw. Very interesting.

What do you make of that 2nd screenshot from pressing down arrow?

      Thank you again!

    • RE: [Plugin] Shape Bender Beta

I have this plugin installed at work and it runs great. Very impressive. I installed in on my home computer and it doesn't seem to be working quite right.

I have progressbar.rb installed (I originally forgot, got the error then installed it). The plugin actually bends shapes but it pushes them away from the selected curve by what seems to be the distance between the straight line and the original object. I don't have sketchy-physics or Compspray installed which seem to be the plugins that conflict and have caused problems for this plugin.

In the first screenshot, you will note the blue preview mesh both on the curve and the original object. You can see on the original object that it is attached to the line I selected and the blue mesh runs from the curved line to the preview mesh in green.

It is my understanding that the tool is supposed to bend exactly on the selected curve, not push the curve back by the distance between the straight line and the object on the green axis. I measured after letting the tool complete and the curved line is exactly as far away from the final curved object as the straight line is from my starting object.

The 2nd screenshot shows the finished product after the plugin runs. I see no errors when running in the ruby console. I am fairly sure this is not happening on my work PC and it doesn't seem to happen in the videos in the original post.

I should note that my object is a simple 15/2'/1' box done w/ rectangle and push/pull then made into a group. Line was drawn left to right attaching to guides seen in the screenshots. Curve used the built-in arc tool also attaching to the guides and bulging an arbitrary distance.

What am I doing wrong or missing?
Thank you! Thanks for such a fantastic plugin!

    • RE: [Plugin] SmartPushPull v0.26 (05 nov)

As a bit of a primitive learning experience, I tossed together a simple toolbar for this tool. I've tested under su8 on win7 though I can't see much reason it would fail on other setups.

I used a magnet icon 24x24 which seems to work well when snapped next to other toolbars but it looks off kilter if the toolbar is floating.

I have a decent amount of programming experience but zero w/ ruby and this is the first Sketchup ruby work I've done so please don't crush me if this toolbar doesn't work to expectations.

Other than the toolbar code added in, the plugin is exactly the same as the most recent version of the plugin listed by the author. I stole the code from Frank Wiesner and Tig's mirror.rb script and modified it for this tool and supplied an icon that I grabbed off the internet.

The attached .zip contains the modified .rb script and the .png icon file. Both go loose in the Sketchup plugins folder. Please feel free to modify the icon and use your own. Name it spp.png and you won't even have to change the .rb. Also please feel free to modify the code...

      Hope this helps somebody...
