I wouldn't imagine he would sign memorabilia at all, he's just finally deciding he can't do it anymore and deal with all the fan mail.

He's right. For that matter, neither shall I answer any fan mail or sign my photographs for people any longer.

A nice light interior for once. Very realistic. What stands out to me is that the windows seems to be hit by sun but gives off no light into the room. I guess that the way it is with these programs. Hard to imitate sunlight.

I believe he has a temper, but just listening to all the bleeps and having these outrageous words titled-over, made me very doubtful. And no one at the hearing called him on it? He could have been saying, "Excuse me, I have to go to the little boy's room" at the end. Who would know?

    • RE: Contour lines on irregular surface

      TIG,

I tried yours and it seems to work great for what I was doing (rather than duplicating planes and intersecting "by hand"). Also gives the lines as a separate group, instead of making them part of the mesh, which I like.

      Taff,
I think your ruby will do the same thing once I fix the header. I am not sure the paint faces ruby works for the effect I was looking for, as it does not give a graduated texture, nor colors by contour. It might be useful if the model is used in analysis. I only got one color, though I picked other ones. It has an interesting look, like an iceberg. Just for your info (not complaining) where you put in a number (default 10) is is not clear what the number is and that there is a limit, seems to be about 46). The lower numbers give a very subtle effect. If you go too hight the colors repeat, starting with the dark color.

Your terrain models are very helpful (wish SU were faster in flying over). It would be neat to do the model of a place you are going to visit and hike in. And I like the effect you got with the lake surface.

Thank you both for the help.

      Ron,

Maybe we should outlaw groups guilty of voter fraud, but that may include the Dems and GOP. Here's a video on them both.

Thanks. I did look at another file and searched for a likely header. I suspected this was part of it, from the little messing around I've done with simple files like DXF before. I'll try that.

Sounds like a good plan, Coen. Will some moderators be on hand to give those great tips and links we enjoy here? I don't think it's a good idea to have adults randomly butting in. "Events" can be arranged, just as in school, to show off what the kids are doing and saying, and glean appreciation from the community at large.

      Fredo,

Just having done both methods, it seems to me that the texture would be better, so that you do not compromise the geometry of your shape. You could then revise the shape and have the topographic pattern adjust. The trick of a ruby would be a well dimensioned (in the case of contours), scaled, and standardized texture. Choices of contours and colors or both would be nice. Choice of scale, for lot-sized grading plans versus mountain-sized maps, would be good. The contour intervals and colors would be adjusted for each.

I began to think of this from a gallery house site render that used a simple colored ground with topographic contours. It was an effective way to finish the image without a lot of texture and entourage. Subtle color change would have been nice too (not rainbow colors as I show here).

    • RE: Contour lines on irregular surface

      OK thanks a million!

      Here's a landform with a better texture I made...topo 5.png

Here's one with lines in the texture. As you can see the result is not as nice as interstecting the shape with planes.topo 6.png

This one is using intersect with planes but using a copy and overlaying the resulting lines so the earth form isn't affected.topo 7.png

Now to see what Didier hath wrought.

Thanks, I'll try that. I did the above with an array of planes and intersect.

OK, I tried it. Yay SU!

I expected to find a clean gradient on the web. As you can see I found a texture that wasn't tiled well and I got one with a rough pattern which adds to the streakiness. I could probably make one in PS that's much cleaner, but I don't have PS.

Does a ruby do this? Place topographic contour lines ? Perhaps it would be more correct if the lines (with coloring or not) were made with a texture, but I wonder if that's possible?

    • RE: Drum Bellows/Horn Experiment

      modelhead,

I suppose you are aware of the dumbek, the middle eastern drum with a horn base. It seems to give it a more sensual sound, good for that technique when one presses on the skin to vary the pitch (shows how much I know the correct terms). Also the Conga's shape gives them a more organic tone. I'm looking for the right words here... You know, less flat and sharp, more resonance. Tom-toms on a drum set are the first step in that direction. Of course if you do this to all drums you might lose the variation in tone quality you get from a typical set.

Can you just do something with corrugated cardboard to experiment? The nature of the material will also affect the sound.

It would be a sensational stage piece, but the roadies will hate it.

She can hunt like Cheney did. It's all set up to save time and reduce challenge. They dump some confused birds in front of you and you shoot them... or shoot your buddy, as the case may be.

EDIT: In case this thread gets twisted into an anti-hunter diatribe, I fully respect that many hunters are ardent conservationists and naturally have a firm connection to the land and the animals they hunt. "Ducks Unlimited" is an example of such a group of hunters. They are not all out after endangered species, on the contrary they help control species that have grown out of their previous balance, due to human impact.
