ah i get it now simon, thank you very much for the written explaination.

i think one thing you may have missed out (as i understand it) is that the amount of steps you have to take with the 2 faces and a path tool, must equal the amount you have segmented the curve by, or the faces will not end up on the end point of each line.
      correct?

      thank you again.

simon you are a master of getting the best results using methods most don't think of!

i'm still a little confused by the process, but i'll get there!

going to be thick here, but i don't understand the first image solo, it's a HDR, i get that much, but i don't get how it relates to the rendered image, it looks kinds abstracted.

      please forgive my ignorance!

    • RE: How to buy from a US Company?

i recently brought some parts for my classic beetle from an american company and they shipped them over.

i could have got them over here from a company that's an english franchise of the american company, but from the english company it would have cost me just over £3000.

the american company, including shipping and also some little extras, it cost me £1890.

the guy asked me why i was buying from them, rather than their english counterpart, so i outright told him why (after the payment had gone through of course!) he was more than shocked!

the crazy thing is that this wasn't even when the exchange rates were in my favour, had i done it then i could have saved even more.

      i just don't get it.

it's awesome man. i have some very similar things i'm doing for my C.V a the moment, but nothing as cool as this.

one thing i have noticed though, there is a measurement showing on the right h-hand side roughly in the centre, it doesn't really fit with the rest of the comp, personally i'd remove it.

      other than that, spot on!

kinda, it's more like this though:

      or this

the animation isn't important, it's the deagram its self, i can do it, but i was looking for an automated way to save time.

i was trying to work smart and not hard, but looks like i'll have to go back to the hard method!
      oh well!

    • RE: The computer that's number one in consumer satisfaction

i run both, and each has their issues.

IMO though macs are for posers, that was the only reason i got one, i do still use it for the odd thing, but i will always end up going back to my pc.

a guy at uni kept banging on about his mac, it does this, it does that blah blah blah.
he asked me what i have, and i told him about my current rig, and he kept going and slagging of my computer saying macs were the best etc.

then i asked him how much his cost, and told him what i got for my money.

never seen someone shut up so quickly.

another point, if microsoft made ads like these, i bet you a pound they'd be vilified, that's probably the only thing stopping them.

      rude apple, just rude!

just got one of these bad boys, as my course involves a lot of video/model compositing this term.

i played with one in jessops, then got one off the internet with extra goodies and saved nearly 80quid.

i'll let you know how i get on with it when it arrives tomorrow.

    • RE: Exploded diagram help!

yeah the model is grouped entriely into serperate articles, we have to go down as detailed as the nuts and bolts that hold the thing together, but i haven't got that far yet, i am just trying to get a method sorted so it doesn't catch me out come deadline season!

i've been using the xref manager which has been an abosolute godsend as i can work on seperate parts and then xref it in.

looks like i'm in for the long haul though, ah well at least i'm prepared for it.

cheers for the heads up on the ruby remus, i might resort to it if my fingers start wearing out from all the incessant clicking i shall be doing! he he

    • Exploded diagram help!

well hello there my fellow sketchup-ers!

how are you all this evening? well i hope.

i need help, as you might have guessed form the subject title.
for a current uni project i have to produce an exploded diagram of a large scale emergency flood HQ (which i am currently designing) i have no idea how to do this!
i understand what it is, and i can only think of one way of doing it, manually, and as the building is going to have at least 5000 different articles in it, i'd rather find an automated way of doing it.

      any ideas?

a colleague says you can do this in deep exploration, so he tried doing it on a model for me at work, and the results were not as expected.
it pretty much just ripped the model into every single line and dispersed it in an utterly random fashion.

anyone else have any bright ideas?
the project doesn't have to be in for another 5 weeks, but it would be nice to get everything as sorted as possible as if i do have to do it by hand, it's going to take up all of that time!

      any help is greatly appreciated.

      regards
