Here's a quicky, you won't have cut and paste in place in your context menu, you'll find them in Edit.
I've used click drag to set the axis of rotation on the rotate tool but you can set it to green with the left arrow key.

Wow!! Worked like a charm and it is literally endless what I can use this for! Thank you! I love forums where people help each other. Much appreciated!!

    • Straight lines through rounded 3d shapes

      Hi,

I'm still a noob and wasn't exactly sure what to call this. I am a metal fabricator, and I use 2x3 square tube that is 1/4" thick. The tube doesn't have square edges, but rounded edges, and I was able to draw the 2x3 perfectly accurate. I am trying to draw a piece of steel as if it had just been cut on a miter saw/chop saw at an angle.

For my example this one is 45 degrees. Since I am having a hard time drawing the flat edge as if the saw just cut through it. If you picture using a chop saw/miter saw, if it sliced through the 2x3 at a 45degree angle, since the edges are rounded I cant seem to complete the shape the right way making drawing it very difficult. Since the cut is at an angle, and the angle goes through a 1/4 circle 3d type shape, SU doesn't like that very much.

The first image is the 2x3 with 1/4" wall without the angle cut, then the next image is as if it has just been cut 45 degrees. If you look at the following image having the work piece standing up in the same orientation as the screenshot and slicing right through at that angle. I tried to demonstrate the best I could, I have a cut off wheel on an invisible cut off tool so you can picture what i'm talking about. Does this make sense? I can explain further if needed, its just kinda hard to explain.

Thanks in advance! Once I have the solution I will be able to use it on every different type of material at any angle. I love SU, but just like anything when you get stumped it can be frustrating, but every problem is solvable one way or another. I have different extensions also, maybe there is one that will make my life easier either on trimble or sketchucation.

If you import the image and lay it directly on the face, it will show.

Thanks for your response! On your clip I cant see what your doing when you move the curser out of the frame. I get to exactly where your clip starts, but what exactly is happening off screen?

      Thanks in advanced!

Import an image and draw it immediately on a flat face. It will display there and glue-to but if you try to move it on another face it will not show well.

OR You can explode the making it a material on a rectangle:

Move the component on to a face --not a component-- on a face that is either outside a component or a face that is inside and where you have opened the component for editing. Explode the image and it will be a "material in a rectangular face within the first face).

Many other methods are possible. Curved surfaces are different and need some other methods.

Thank you very much for your response. I dont quite understand, what I should do, if I do it on a flat shape but cant take it and not be able to place it on the model? I like you have ideas, SU is great for creativity and once I find a way to make it work I will be relieved. Thanks and I'll check back on here in the morning.

    • My images wont stick!

Help! SU 2019 pro. New to SU but have seemed to figure out what I've needed thus far, but I cant get my images to stick to any components. I have tried various glue to settings, different formats, different sizing and I can't seem to get it. I think I might be something dumb, but google and duckduckgo hasn't given me the answers I'm hoping to find. I took a rough example of 2 screenshots. I have tried as material also but couldn't get that working right either. I need to be able to put my logo on all my models. If I switch to other style view (like wireframe) and it displays, but I want it to display on the regular default view style used when you start a new model from. What should I do?? (I Just pasted in paint for simplicity)

      Thanks!!
