    • Having trouble painting some faces

I'm not sure what's happening but I have this problem a lot. Let's say I make a house and I have made a roof with eaves. I can paint the house and roof faces with no problem but only about 1/2 the eaves will paint. The other ones just won't take paint. Often times if I click on that section, another section of the house will paint instead! I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong but it's very frustrating when these simple things waste so much of your time. I haven't imported materials, I'm just using the standard paint selections in Sketchup.

      Any ideas?

      Thanks!

    • Material colors

I'm trying to paint the roof of my model with the roofing texture. But I need it to be green instead of grey...is there anyway to edit the color of the pre-loaded materials? I've tried with no luck.

If not, is there a good site I can download such materials from or a plug in that will help me out with this?

      Thanks!

    • RE: My first completed SU model with animation

I guess I should have explained...it's the mock up of an accident scene that actually took place. I'm a paralegal working for a civil litigation firm...hoping to use these models for court or mediations in the future.

    • My first completed SU model with animation

Thanks to everyone who has answered all of my silly newbie questions. Please follow the link to my completed model with animation. It was done using the Proper Animation and Smooth Animation plugins. If it asks for a password, the password is "sketchup".

Please let me know what you think!

      Thanks,

    • RE: Reducing frames

Thanks all. Being new to this animation and rendering thing I wasn't sure if 800 frames was huge or not. That was my main concern. Thanks for the answers on that. I feel better knowing it's probably just a normal size.

I will probably try a save overnight tonight when I leave work. I think that will give it time to save all the frames without interrupting my work schedule.

I'll let you know later in the week how it turns out!

    • RE: Possible tutorial request

Thanks guys. I've posted at Twilight as well. I have gone ahead and downloaded the trial version of Podium which seems a little easier to understand. I'll keep working at it!

    • Possible tutorial request

As a newbie (I've never worked with CAD, Sketch-up or any animation programming before I downloaded sketchup a few months ago) I would love to see some very basic tutorials on how to start with rendering programs. I am starting completely from scratch and I have downloaded Twilight but so much of it is just so over my head. I'm not sure where to even begin at this point. Heck, until a few days ago, I didn't even know how to load a plug in!

I have a good model with animation started and would like to add some rendering elements but am not sure how to work the program. I keep playing with it and eventually should be able to figure some of it out but a small tutorial sure would help. Sometimes the written word is hard to follow but give me a video and I can always follow right along πŸ˜‰

I'm sure there must be other Sketchup/Rendering virgins out there who are in the same boat.

Just a suggestion! You guys always give me a lot of help whenever I need it!

      Thanks, Mary

    • Reducing frames

Hi everyone. I'm back with another question.

I have my animation (done with Proper Animation plug in) and have downloaded Twilight Rendering so that I can export my animation. However my file seems huge (841 frames at 24 fps). This is going to take forever to download thru Twilight and I notice that each frame is dumped onto my computer as a jpeg file.

Is there anyway to reduce the number of frames in my sketchup model? I have already purged layers. I realize I may have done something wrong in my original sketchup modeling in order to make the file so large. This is my first animation export so any hints, tips or tricks would be of great assistance.

Thanks in advance for any help...you guys are the best!

    • RE: Exporting animation from twilight

I think I've found the answer to my own question. I don't believe you can export animation with the demo version of Twilight. However for $59 (until Sept. 24) I think I'll invest in the program, it appears to be a good one and worth the money.

If anyone knows different, please let me know.

    • Exporting animation from twilight

Ok, so I've downloaded both the Proper Animation and the Twilight(demo) plugins. However I still can't get my animation to export. Can someone help me with how to export a Proper Animation thru Twilight?

      Thanks!

    • Proper Animation plugin

Quick question...I've just downloaded this plugin...my first attempt with a plugin ever πŸ˜„ I really like the possibilities this plugin offers! Here's my question, once I've set a position, what if I want to delete it? I have one in my current model that I no longer want but can't figure out how to delete that position? Any help is greatly appreciated!

One more quick question...am I correct that you can not export this animation as an AVI file? Is there another way to do it if not?

      Thanks.

Wow! The tank animation is impressive... Not quite ready for that level yet but I am working with the Proper Animation plug in and am slowly figuring it out. I believe it is going to serve my purposes quite well. Thanks for all the help everyone!

    • Animating a single object in a model

Ok, I've made a model and have done the "walk-thru" type video by using scenes. What I want to know is can you animate a single object within a model without changing camera views?

For example, my model is a gas station complete with cars at the pump. It is a mock up of an accident scene. I would love to be able to show the path of the mini-van from where it started to where it hit a pedestrian. I have tried to move the object (the minivan) and make a scene, move it again, make another scene, etc....but this doesn't seem to work because there is no change of camera angles.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance for any advice.
