The tutorial and plugins seem to work ok - here is your model with the slats 4" apart (enter 6" in spacing plugin to take account of the slat width too.

You don't have to use the tape measure - if you select all the lines that make up the curve and look in the "Entity Info" window it will display the total length - in the case of your model I read it as 14' 9 1/16"
I understand that, but am still confused as how to place the 2x2's. Sorry about all this, first time dealing with technical curves.
This tutorial is what you are trying to do I think: http://blogs.taunton.com/n/blogs/blog.aspx?nav=main&webtag=fw-designforum&entry=92
Basically you use the weld plugin to create a complete path along which you can then copy your 2x2s.

Martin, I'd say yes. The UI is easy to navigate and understand, many presets for beginners to get immediate results yet for more advanced users there are settings available in order to get more juice out.
This looks like a very promising app.
I tried the demo and just applied one the clay presets to one of my Dr Who models and it came out pretty good for someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I think I'll be ordering it when I get home and look forward to playing around with it this weekend. -
RE: Twilight render...
As a intermediate modeler with no rendering experience do people think Twilight would be a good way to go for me? I'm attracted by the low price and in the in SU approach.

Are your submissions showing up on the Gallery page? I sent mine in on Saturday morning the 22nd, and now they are posting projects with the 23rd as the submission date. I emailed but haven't received anything back. Oh well, at least it was something fun to design.
Good luck with your projects.
Cheffey - it took about 3 days from the time I submitted until the time it showed up it their galleries. Check your email spam folder (that's where my confirmation ended up) - they will send you an email telling you if your model was accepted or rejected (and why). I'm sure they're fighting through a back log of last minute entries. Good luck.

A blind/hide is such a great idea under the restrictions of the competitions rules - why didn't I think of that? I really like the simplicity of your design and that huge window that seems to funnel in the view. Great work!
Thanks a lot!
Let's hope they'll accept it. I had to resubmit because it was a tad bit too large.
They told me that too the first time I submitted it - when I sent it back with an image showing the square footage of the floor area was within spec they apologized telling me that they'd sent me a rejection intended for someone else. I just don't think they know how to accurately measure internal shelter floor space. Good luck with your re-submission - your model deserves to be seen.

3D Warehouse questions
I have a couple of basic questions about the 3D warehouse:
1 - Can you track updates to the comments and ratings on your models? I do not get many ratings or comments so it would be nice to track via RSS or something when some one says something nice (or horrible) about my work.
2 - Can you see more about user than the current context? It I click on a user's name from the comments, I see just their other reviews and comments. If I click on their name from a model, I just see their other models. If I click on their name from a collection I just see ... well you get the idea. Is there nowhere you can go to see a user's profile and their models, collections, ratings and everything else about them?
It's really hard to get a sense of community in the warehouse when you can't really work out some one's credentials.

RE: Guggeheim Competition: Design It
I just watched the video - thanks for updating the link - I loved the concept and your renders - as I'm deathly afraid of heights I doubt I'd get much sleep there but I bet the views would be great!

RE: Guggeheim Competition: Design It
After my post ( http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=81&t=21343 ) I thought I was the only one around here who'd entered - love your design - mine is very boring by comparison. Great work!

I tried to watch your video but got "The video you have requested is not available."

RE: URGENT! Cannot Upload to 3D Warehouse!
I have the same problem - I can export from the network at work but not from my machine at home all the time. Which ports do I need to open on my firewall?

RE: Guggenheim Design It Shelter Competition
Thanks guys - I'm surprised there is no mention of the challenge on the forums.
Pg09 - I do realize that it was a little quick in parts but I limited myself to 90 seconds so I could share with my Flickr buddies and I probably tried to cram too many ideas into that time. The surfboard I used is this one with a little tweaking: http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=dd0b5f1f441bcf5da59124ef5196e8e5&prevstart=12

Guggenheim Design It Shelter Competition
Did anyone else enter the the Guggenheim Design It Shelter competition? http://www.guggenheim.org/new-york/education/sackler-center/design-it-shelter - it was announced on the Official SketchUp blog a while back. Perhaps you could share your models here if you did?
This was my entry: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TtxAuEOIiRA - very tame compared to a lot of the other entries but I had fun with it.

RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
Hi - yet another new user here. I've been using SketchUp for a couple of years but not in any professional capacity - purely as an enthusiast. Most of what I've created is on the 3d Warehouse http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/search?viewer=12109198918404668208&scoring=p. I used to concentrate on models of movie props I was perhaps interested in building life-sized but I don't have much time to build prop replicas anymore so the Sketchup model is usually as far as I got. These days I build more practical models and help my friends of a technical bent get up to speed on SketchUp for various home-owner DIY projects. I did attend Base Camp at Google HQ last year and I learned so much there.
