.mat is a 3d studio max format. You want a .vrmat or .vismat format. There are quite a few available for download on the Chaos Group website, as well as V-Ray Express for SketchUp, which will give you a nice library of V-Ray materials and lighting/studio scenes to import and play with. Not sure if you will have full access to these resources until after you purchase a license, but either way, you need to use a .vrmat or .vismat.

Thanks for the speedy response! Will give it a try.

    • Unable To Import Materials Into V-Ray/SketchUp (Mac)

      Hi there,

I've just purchased a Mac and I want to render my SketchUp model. Back on my old PC I'd have used Kerkythea however It does not appear to be working, so I've downloaded a 30 day trial of V-Ray instead. All was going well, until I tried to import new materials into it, but for whatever reason it won't let me. Any idea how to fix this? I'm completely new at V-Ray, so I'm aware this could be a very simple problem with an obvious fix, however I couldn't find anything online. Any feedback much appreciated.

Image of what I see when I try to import texture into V-Ray's material editor on SketchUp:
