    • Using Sketchup for non profit

Hello everyone out there in Sketchup land.
I'm trying to help my work replan some office spaces to see if we can fit furniture and assess how much space we have to play with. I thought using Sketchup would be ideal but I see that it might not be possible, as the professional version costs. I work for a not for profit charity and would only be using Sketchup as a space calculator really.
Does anyone know if this is possible and, if not, whether there is other software I can use or if there is another workaround?

Looking forward to hearing from you all.

      Ta

    • Using Sketchup on my Macbook Pro

      Hi everyone,

I hope you're all well out there.
I was wondering if anyone uses Sketchup on a Macbook pro and, if they do, whether they find that, for whatever reason, the software repeatedly freezes?
I've been working on organic, symmetrical shape designs but am finding that I rarely get anywhere because as soon as the design reaches a certain level of complexity, the software freezes.
I contacted apple support and have made sure that is not the machine I'm using.
I just wondered if anyone ever had experienced this problem and, if so, how did they resolve it?

All the best everyone and thanks in advance!

    • Smoothening tool

      Hello All,

Hope you all had a good break!

I've recently overcome the problem of importing drawings (abstract) into SU but creating the drawings directly in SU and using a smoothening tool.
But I'm finding the one I'm using (The Artisan Organic Toolset) is making SU freeze. I've yet to save a drawing using it, it always crashes.
Does anyone out there know of a similar tool that will give my drawings a really organic look and feel without nearly blowing my machine (mac) up?

      Any help greatly appreciated.

      Thanks in advance.

It is a X3DB file that can be converted to STL using Netfabb Basic.

Or In 3DS so no need plugin inside SU πŸ˜‰

Looks great. How do I do that? I'm very much a novice so would be grateful if you could let me know, step by step, how you did this.

      Thanks!

    • Organic 3D Model Project Advice/Help Needed

Hey folks, wherever you’re reading this.

I’m very, very new to SU and working towards the creation of 3D designs.

I want to print organic looking shapes in symmetrical patterns but this is a long way off.

First, I have hit upon a conundrum my novice brain is ill-equipped to find the answer to. I'm hoping one of you lovely people out there might be able to help me with it:
How do I import basic line drawings into SU to work them into solid objects ready, eventually, to print. I've seen an SU extension called BitmaptoMesh but am having some technical problems with it right now.

If anyone has advice to offer a newbie, I’d greatly appreciate it. Alternatively, if you would like to take up the challenge of seeing if you can find a way around this puzzle, drop me an email to send the designs to and you can see what you think.

Any and all constructive advice very, very welcome.

      Many thanks in advance,

      MaxwellJ

Here's an example of the kind of image I'm talking about.

    • Bitmap to Mesh

      Hello,

I'm trying to import drawings and, using the Bitmap to Mesh extension, create a mesh from which I can begin to make a 3d drawing.
I'm fine to import the bitmap but I can do nothing with it. Can't 'right click' (Mac) to find an option to create the mesh. Every instruction video I've seen uses menu options I can't see in 'my version' of the software (Mac and Make (free)).
      Am I missing something?
Is there a more effective way to realise this project?

      Thanks in advance guys.
