Shift+Erase will not delete the edges but hides them. In case of a rounded surface however, not hiding but smoothing is preferred (to avoid faceting). This is done with Ctrl+Erase.

Well the keys are different on the Mac, but after hitting some combination of keys, pop-up menus and checkboxes in the toolbar, presto!

      Thanks!

    • Rounded corners, removing/hiding edges?

Sorry if this is a dup, I hit Save instead of Submit and things get really confusing from that point…

I'm trying to produce "line art" output, that is, no shading on the faces and heavy outlines on the edges. No problem, Window->Style and a bit of poking about.

However, one of the objects does not look right. I build this by drawing a rectangle, using arc to round the corners, and then extended it vertically with push/pull. The result is a box with bezelled corners.

The bezels look bad. Each bit of the curve is rendered as a heavy vertical edge. I know there's a way to simply this...

    • Learning SU, simple question about rounded edges?

I'm teaching myself SU to make some diagrams for a patent application. I'm generally surprised with how easy it is to use! After a few of Google's intro videos and some poking about in the forums, I've got my gizmo pretty much the way I want it in only two hours. I've never touched 3D before!

Patent applications need to use line art - no shading. Following hints I found here, I turned off face drawing, doubled up line thickness, and set the background color from green to white. This is almost exactly what I need.

But… The one thing that's not perfect is that the rounded corners of my object are drawn as a bunch of vertical lines (it started as a rectangle, clipped the corners with arc, and then pulled vertically). It's definitely not kosher.

I don't know exactly what I want here, perhaps only one or two lines marking the boundaries? In any event I want less than I have now. This doesn't seem to be something you set under Window->Styles?

      Any advice?

    • RE: STEP export or Khamsin?

I'm not sure a STEP exporter for AutoCAD will help me with my SketchUp files?

    • STEP export or Khamsin?

I'm looking at options to use SketchUp as the first step in a simple CFD workflow.

The tools I'm using all seem to support STEP as the only common option. I have seen a STEP importer, but not an exporter, does such a beast exist?

We have a talented SketchUp modeler on-staff, and we're looking at options to do some simple CFD.

The stand-alone tools we have seen generally support STEP, and although I've seen a STEP importer, I have not found an exporter. Does such a thing exist?

Alternately, does anyone here have experience with the Khamsin plugin? I'd like to get some preliminary comments on it if you have any to share.

      Thanks!
