Yeah but I hear so many negative reviews on that, things like he touchscreen giving out after 3 months and such :S I dont want that. And a beam me up button would be nice yes ๐Ÿ˜›

There is even more than that. I hope you dont live in another country, or ever plan to travel with your phone. AT&T charged one guy fore sure (and its rumored that hey did this to others) over $300 for typing and sending a single sentence to a stateside forum he was a member of while on vacation in another country using the edge network. And im assuming you would like to be able to do that sort of thing (maybe not in another country, but use the edge network or wifi), but you may be better off with one of those "slider" type phones with the built in qwerty keyboard.

Not to mention the fact that they tend to overcharge compared to other providers. My friends tell me horrible stories of AT&T.

yes you do have a point, on the card but this is not a system for professionals per say... this was a under $1000 build and this 8500 gt affords the user future updates in which DX10 maybe needed and it affords the user cost effective graphics for around $150.00 brand new with warranty, and an extra slot for future adding of another card to take advantage of the SLI setup. bringing the total of ram on the card to 1 gig.

      $150? Man, lookie here:

      http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150245
$90 for one of those. Did you have a look at newegg? Or have prices gone down since you bought yours? For 30 bucks more than you are talking for one, you can SLI two of them now.

Dont want to seem rude or anything, i just like to look around and see whats the best deal.

Also, have you run a 3dmark test on this setup yet? You should do a test on this one and an older machine of yours to see where it stands.

Its just a matter of finding someone with a student discount who doesnt need the card. Or, take a look at Newegg.

You can find "PNY VCQFX1400-PCIE-PB Quadro FX1400 128MB 256-bit DDR PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card" for about 350 bucks, which is good as far as rendering cards go, or, you can go even cheaper, and get a rendering card for as low as 150 dollars.

I dont know how far under 1 grand you were at, but its just a suggestion.

Hate to barge in here, but if you guys are looking for a video card, you dont want to go with one made for gaming, and DX10? Wont do a damn thing as far as the rendering work is concerned (correct me if im wrong). See if you can scrounge up someone with a student discount and score a new Quadro for like 300 bucks. (If you really want good rendering)

I say this because there is a way to change a fx5500 card into a quadro (albeit not a very good quadro) and i can say for certain that as a Quadro my card performs in SU several times better than it does as a fx5500, and yes, its an old card, im broke what can i say.

My only issue is that i play more games than i use SU, so i went back to using it as a gaming card.

My point is that you would be far better off trying to get a hold of a rendering card on ebay seeing as they are crazy expensive for a new one. Go the extra mile and make sure you are getting parts related to the application, as gaming cards (and dx10 unless im wrong) arent made for rendering.

And yes i realize this was posted several months ago.

Yes I do have Vista. In your proprietry cd burning software, do you have an option to save files to disc as an "image". You know you have save as data, save as audio cd, is there also an option to save as image? That will create an iso file. Sounds weird but it works. Or you could buy an iso disc from dl, they are are less than 2 dollars.

I haven't given it much time yet but could get used to dl, although I'm not sure yet if it is simple enough for a learner. To navigate around the os seems very similar to osx but there are alot of files and areas that I have come across that I have no idea what they are for - I need to download and study the manual. It has really speeded up my old machine though and it recognised all the hardware, soundcards etc no problem.
I may try Ubuntu too, as its supposed to be easier to learn and I've found loads of tutorials to get SU working on Ubuntu.

Although I haven't look at all of the apps that installed with dl, Gimpshop and Openoffice are a good find. Gimpshop is much more like PS than standard Gimp, and Open office, well put it this way I won't be buying any more Ms Office upgrades.

No such luck with the CD burning program I have. Its just HP Record Now from like 6 years ago with no updates (there are none) so Im out of luck for that. I know there are other programs to do this that are free because a long while ago when I went looking I found ISO Recorder on a list of like 10 other free ones. But now I cant find it, every search I do comes up with about a billion results that all lead to ISO Recorder.

      Hi Squidge

The software I used is here http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm There is an xp version too. Look at this forum thread. This guy told me how to do it.
      http://dream.wikidot.com/forum/t-30182/i-am-a-total-noob-please-help

thats what i was using too. Thats the only one i can find and it says its a DVD ISO and it isnt supported. I guess its off to view that forum.

EDIT: After looking at that forum the only thing the guy says is to use ISO Recorder... Which doesnt work for me for some reason. It says it is a DVD format ISO and according to the website the XP version doesnt support DVDs. Dont you have Vista anyways? That would be why it worked for you most likely if you do. But I need another program to burn this thing. Is the ISO actually meant for a DVD? Im sure its not since it IS called a Live CD not a Live DVD right...

What program did you use to burn that ISO. Because ISO recorder (the only thing I can ever find on google) says its a DVD format ISO and only the vista version of this program does DVD images.

Its kinda irritating that i cant put a 700 MB file on a disc... When its made for a CD.

Use your components and your Outliner...

I would hate to see your sock drawer. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
Yes it is so... But my models arent usually very large either. I have yet to make a model large enough to slow down my computer at this point. I do a lot of simple stuff. But I DO understand why I would be better off to use them.

And yes my sock drawer is a mess actually.

What you see on the youtube is maps and marketing ๐Ÿ˜„
Maybe im just so used to lower frame rates that it doesnt phase me. I did notice that in the one video though, but ive seen others where the frame rates are smooth too. How could it be marketing if the videos are showing off unsupported mods?

Without dx10 you can't play in high mode....and difference is huge.

Yeah you can, there is a ton of hacks out there that let you run it on high settings. The description in the video points to a download to do it.

Ive seen the game on very high in DX10 and ive watched full res video of forced very high settings on DX 9 and the only differences are in some of the water and particle effects.
And even then its not much.

Here is hi def version of one of those videos.

Well, no such luck with this program. Apparently it doesnt play well with my computer, because every time I get to about 70% through the install my computer crashes. Hard.

Locks up for about 10 seconds then SPLAT!

Im trying to install on XP Pro, but im not gonna even bother trying it on Home right now.

Based off of the distribution of the "frost" on the ground, it looks like it was dropped there shortly before taking the picture, roughly enough to knock some of the frost off. Do you know whither this is correct?

Is whither the right word, or am I spelling a homophone of what I'm trying to say?

I think you are looking for whether. But even as i type it it seems incorrect. Oh well the Firefox spell check says its fine, which is funny because it says Firefox isn't a word (just added it to the dictionary).

Remember this is the Crysis engine which is Directx 10, and directx 10 is Vista.

Crysis will play on DX9. Its not one of those crappy games that REQUIRE DX10 for no good reason. Allegedly you will just get lower graphics, but with all the people out there saying "damn that" its been found that DX9 is capable of almost as much as DX10. Apparently 10 isnt that much better than 9 in reality.

But thats still not the actual frame rates.

Thanks for the links, ive been interested in a new live version of linux to play with and this one takes the cake.

I just need to figure out how to install stuff properly... Im such a liunx noob.
