    • WAREHOUSE ADV SEARCH STOPPED AT DATE 3 AUG 2018

Not sure if this is correct to post this here. Otherwise I must create a forum login at Sketchup Warehouse itself. Since yesterday mid-day (3 August 2018) the Advanced Search stopped showing new uploads and when setting option for 'new to old' it only shows latest uploads ending plus-minus where I was mid-day yesterday. I have always checked the new uploads via search this way. Where I have sometimes checked uploads for say last 24 hours (which worked previously) it now just say no models.

I have always use this link:
      https://3dwarehouse.sketchup.com/advancedsearch.html?backendClass=both&hl=en

Not sure if this is a glitch at the warehouse.

Please, why is this file keep failing to download?
      https://www.twilightrender.com/index.php/downloads/upgrade

I am on x64 bit and obviously needs the x64 version of Twilight render hobby but the file just states failed - network error! I have downloaded the x32 bit version but it requires Sketchup 32 bit and I am only using x64 bit. Are there another download location to try this?

Before you download a number of renderer's check if they can actually do what you want. ๐Ÿ˜„

the attached scene uses mostly emissive materials in Twilight, some of it representing neon lights. Kerkythea is also a very robust renderer, though more complicated to use IMO.

I am a total newbie to this so I am trying whatever I can get for free that is. I am a pensioner and can only go on free at this stage, lol. I have downloaded the Twilight one but the 64bit version keeps on saying failed, network error though 32 bit version downloaded. Hope this version will work on 64bit machines but I still have to test it out.

EDIT: When installing the Twilight render 32bit it states it require Sketchup 32 bit.

Thanks for this, but which version is the "lite"? I am following the link where they say how to get to the lite version but on that specific page I don't see download buttons. When going to the 'try' on top of page it's for trial version. Is this correct? If so, which download must I follow for free lite version? The files are quite big, i.e. about 500mb. Do I simply start download the 7.3 version on top or another older version lower on page? I am running a 64 bit, Windows 7 OS? I am also using Sketchup 2016. http://www.simlab-soft.com/3d-products/simlab-composer-old-download.aspx

Version 7.3 file size is about 1.5 gb! And some older versions are less in size. I don't want to download such a big file only to find it's not the lite version. ๐Ÿ˜ฒ

You could look at Twilight renderer Hobby. You can do a lot with an "emissive material" (a texture you apply to the surfaces which can cast light in a render). With "bloom" settings you can give a glow appearance. It's comparatively easy once you get an idea how the rendering app works. You could work with flat surfaces first and you might find that you don't have to do tubes or ropes of shapes to get the effect you want--depending on the detail you need and how close the view is to the subject.

Thanks for reply. I am trying to download Twilight render Hobby from the underneath link but the x64 bit version, for some unknown reason, don't download keep saying: failed - network error. ๐Ÿ˜’ I got the x32 bit download but will it work on a x64 bit OS, Windows 7? Link: https://www.twilightrender.com/index.php/downloads/upgrade. I assume the 'hobby' version is free, or not?

You can find neon sign style fonts or maybe already have some. Use 3D Text to create the sign lettering. You can't create the glowing appearance in SketchUp other than using a bright color. If you want to make the lettering look like it is illuminated and illuminating its surrounds, you'll need to use a rendering program. Maybe you could try Kerkythea. It's available at no charge. Since you haven't completed your profile with SketchUp version and OS, I don't know if Kerkythea is an option for you, though.

      Dave,

Thank you for your reply - I did not know about Kerkythea and will have a look at it and if it will work for me. ๐Ÿ˜„

    • Any beginner tutorials for making neon signs and text?

I am trying to search for tutorials on how to make a sign and text into neon style look (3D). Unfortunately all the videos I ran across needs extra plugins/tools such as LightUp to get such results. I do not have funds to buy any of these plugins/tools and will have to do without it. Even VRay I can't afford at this stage which make things a bit difficult.

Are there any other ways to get such a neon look without the mentioned plugins/tools and VRay? I have downloaded neon videos for Blender but have to admit I am absolutely clueless about Blender. Not that I know much more about Sketchup either, but have built 2 shop buildings in Sketchup and that way have some knowledge over Blender. Sketchup seems a bit more user-friendly comparing the interfaces.

I want to add titles and signs to my buildings in neon style. I have done so with post work by using Paint Shop Pro (second image) but 3D will be much better on the end! I actually hate post work! ๐Ÿ˜’

One of my Sketchup buildings which is available at the Warehouse.

Another Sketchup building (also at the Warehouse) but animated shop title with Paint Shop Pro's Animation Shop (post work).

Both scenes rendered in Bryce 7.1.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! ๐Ÿ˜„

      Kind regards,

    • Can't get into Sketchup Warehouse site normal way

      Hi there,

Since today when opening the Sketchup Warehouse site a message comes up reading: Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from 3dwarehouse.sketchup.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

When I visited the warehouse 2 days back it was normal as always. Are anyone else experience the same?

In the website link the https:// shows a red line drawn over that part of the url.

My first question is why are you modeling in Sketchup if you plan to rig in Blender, has Blender not got better suited tools for such organic modeling?

Organic modeling with Sketchup is possible but will require practice and a few plugins, maybe a couple commercial ones.

Look at some Artisan (plugin) tutorials for an idea of proxy to subdivision and sculpting options.

Solo, thanks for your reply. I have to be honest here, I have actually no experience with Blender too! Just saw on forums one can do rigging with Blender, Max, etc. I have both. I am just now looking at youtube videos on rigging as well in all the programs I have, and on how to use Artisan in Sketchup. Both Blender and Max is not easy for a beginner.

I was once trying a building in Blender but stopped it. When I tried the building and finished it up easily in Sketchup I thought everything else will be better too. I do this only for myself for fun. But at times I get confused with the multitude of tools and options. I have also downloaded now Artisan manual. Actually I have used Hexagon 2.5 more with help in the Daz3D forums but not on character creations, just how to cut a pre-made clothing mesh.

    • Really need help on making puppets in SU 15

      VENTRILOQUEST GIRL PUPPET.jpg

      Good day!

Not sure if anyone can help but I am interested in making a puppet similar to the boy/girl heads attached (ventriloquest puppets). There are plenty great images on the web but to create them in a 3D model is something I can't do. The only thing I have done is a building in SketchUp as it's not too complicated but a character/figure is quite something else! I am just so clueless.

Some time back someone build me a vintage pram from just a photo I have sent him which was quite good. I believe he used photo-matching but I really don't understand how to use this at all! ๐Ÿ˜• I am trying to search for a tutorial but even the tut's I am not really understand. I am 60 and it's hard to learn at the same pace as younger people. I have even search for such freebie puppets at DeviantArt for Xnalara but nothing similar to what I want.

I have attached only images of heads at this point but obviously will need body parts too. For rigging in Blender I will need more tutorials but that I will direct to the Blender forums.

Is photo-matching the correct way to do this? Or any other tut's for beginners? I have Artisan plugin but haven't used that at all. If Artisan is needed how can I build a model as this?

Any help or advice are much appreciated.

      Regards,

      Laura

    • Why do I need a separate login to download from PluginStore?

      Good day!

I am interested in the Fur tool for SketchUp but even if I am logged in the forums as now, I need to login again when opening PluginStore. Next to the plugins appears a 'need to login to get it'. If I try login again, it doesn't accept it! How will I be able to get to the plugins in order to download it? I assume the Fur tool plugin is free, but not sure. ๐Ÿ˜•

    • Difficulty with Rotate, Moving and Placement of objects

Objects in window bit upwardsGood day,

I have completed my 1st ever model of a simple building in SketchUp, thus total new to 3D creation! I have done the building without any manual just by playing around with the features. But some features are quite difficult and I can't handle them as I have too little experience and handling thereof such as to move an object from one point to another point exactly where it should go. Another nightmare is the rotation feature. I can't get the object to rotate just a bit to the front or back, or to sides. ๐Ÿ˜•

In the attached image I have difficulty to rotate the objects in the window, they are all kind of facing to one direction. For instance the singer basis I want to turn slightly sideways, and so on.

Oh, and another thing is the objects don't touch the base/floor - even staircase up a bit. How can I move them down to touch floor?

Are there tutorials which will help with rotation and movements/placing down of objects?

I have also read about a tool, follow me, but the red tool icon doesn't appear on my interface but only under "tools" menu. I assume this is the same tool? I haven't used it yet but is curious.

Any help are much appreciated! ๐Ÿ˜„

Thank you for all the tips! Yes, I find the export as 2D image working but will look into the other options when I want to have the full Sketchup screen saved as an image. I am so new to the program that I haven't notice the export as 2D image at first.

    • How can I make a screenshot in Word of my model?

      Hi there,

I have today created my 1st ever model in Sketchup 2014 and want to share it with friends. Usually I make a screenshot from the open Sketchup scene and insert it into Word. This is how I have done it using Win XP in the past. All that appears now in Word after the insert of screenshot is the Sketchup scene with a white background. The model doesn't show up at all! I want to share it but have no idea of how. ๐Ÿ˜•

At this point I don't want to export it to another program as the model is not quite finished. I am using Windows 7 with the latest MS Word. I actually want to make screenshots of all the steps (I have saved each step separately for myself).

The model I have done without any tuts by playing around with the features and figure out this way the "how to".

      Any help is much appreciated.

      Regards,
