Couldn't find my Templates thread so I'm starting this one.

If you remember I was having a problem creating pdf templates, and I ended up exporting a dxf, then bring that into C Draw (version 7). I thought I had it figured out, but the templates I made weren't the right size. Instead if 108" x 12" they always ended up 45" x 5".

So, I went and bought the newest version of C Draw (version 11), and now I can create the PDFs accurately, but none of the text or dimensions are showing up. Hoping someone can help me over this last hurdle.

I first create a New Page, then import the dxf. The dxf is fine as you can see.

Here are the Import Options I'm using (next to Sort Type)
      http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a173/ ... ptions.jpg

This is how it should look
      http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a173/ ... uld_Be.jpg

but this is what I get, missing the text and dimensions
      http://s11.photobucket.com/albums/a173/ ... atIGet.jpg

I've tried making the text in SUp bigger and bolder, tried different line weights, and tried using Hidden Line, tried using those different dxf Import options.

      appreciate any help on this!

Sorry for my lame comment "what's rain' to all you Brits. I've been watching all the news about what's been happening over there (we're just starting to see news about it) and man what a mess! What was it, something like a month's rain in one hour?

    • RE: Privacy & the Upper story deck

Darn, been wracking my brain to come up with a nice solution for you Susan, but with
Bylaws like you have, this is tough. (have you checked them yet, no permanent structures?)

A pergola/patio cover structure helps some for when people are looking down on you, especially if you do planting, or roll down screens on the sides. I show bamboo roof covering but even fairly open 2x2s or 2x4s latticework give good screening when viewed from an upper angle.
      upperstory.jpg

My most recent deck had a similar issue with needing to screen out a street to one side. For shade I did a Patio Cover, and for the screening I made a simple Bamboo Screen and fairly open Privacy Railing for that one side.
http://woodsshop.com/PROJECTS/Mill/Finish/a2.htm You don't really need either to be solid, blocking out the view. Even your typical wood latticework gives you a pretty good sense of privacy.

More pics of that project http://woodsshop.com/PROJECTS/Mill/MillDeck.htm

I think you should do what Ross suggested, and go ask some questions. Seems to me that if all three of you neighbors request to be able to add some privacy, the rules could get changed. I've never heard any rule against permanent structures as long as they conform to the Setback Rules. Charlie has the best ideas with screens all on the same sides, but they'd only need to be maybe 5' 4" tall.

Thanks kwik. Yep, the kid is one I already have from back when Alan was selling people collections.

those other two are definitely not Alans! πŸ˜„ but might be good for long range views.

      Appreciate it kwik.

That would be nice kwik, that one would fit right into some of my Deck Scenes. Tell Alan I said hi and really miss his posts.

Is the Kid one that Alan posted on the old forums? If so I'd like to get my hands on it if it isn't one of the ones you need to subscribe for. I'd like to see the other ones too when you get home πŸ˜„

That's a nice little corner pergola Kwick.

say, where'd you get the people (especially the guy sitting with his arms over the railing), are those some of Alan's people?

Naw, we ruled out having any stairs Kris. They only have to walk in the upstairs door and take a few steps to the house stairs that lead down. Good suggestion though!

What's that Screiber? You mean the gray wood grain in the Plans Pages? Helps you too 'see' the Plans a little better I think.

No, that screen is to screen-out some neighbors over on that side of the deck, but it'll give some shade over under the pergola in the seating area.

Don't worry, this isn't going to be another "How to Build a Deck" thread with a thousand pictures posted! I've started a page for this Project on my Site, and I'll be posting plenty of pics there πŸ˜„ http://woodsshop.com/PROJECTS/Mill/MillDeck.htm

you can see more Design and Plan images there now.

I'm especially pleased with my Plans. The Plan Checker at the Building Dept. even complicated me on them πŸ˜„

    • Deck Design

      Hi folks!

this is one of my Deck Designs that has come to fruition, and we start work tomorrow! πŸ˜„

here's the Site .. a house up on a small hill with a great view across coastal San Diego harbor.

      1.jpg (not available)

      and here's the Plan ..

      2.jpg (not available)

      Two issues with the Design-

      1. Give them some nice outdoor space to enjoy that view
      2. Design something that my clients can afford! (so I get to build it πŸ˜„

      3.jpg(not avaiable)

So as you see I didn't use any of my usual curved work and kept everything pretty much square, and alot easier to build (and cost less!) than curved work. I did include some of our usual finish details though, and we're still using quality materials.

Someone on one of my Construction Forums mentioned that Updaters might be hogging resources, I checked to see which of my Updaters were turned on and found my AV was.

Really glad I got that figured out.

    • RE: Mouse question this time

No, I don't think it's anything like that Kris. Like I said, I went and got another different cordless mouse, and it's doing the same thing.

no Charlie, I haven't upgraded anything here in the office, and my nearest neighbor is 300 feet away. The first mouse had a usb like a little thumb drive that plugged right into the back of the computer. This new one plugs in there too but the receiver's on a cord. I'll try moving it farther away.

I think a clue is that it happens intermittently.

appreciate the replies guys, hope I can solve this one!

    • Mouse question this time

OK folks, my USB wireless optical mouse has been misbehaving. It'll work fine, and then it'll start not responding. Can't move it, can't click anything. Also, sometimes, when the mouse is sitting still, the cursor will start moving upward on the screen. Checked the battery, checked the usb plug.

I've looked in Properties and it says it's working properly.

so I went out and bought a different brand of wireless optical, and it's doing the exact same thing. What the heck's wrong?
