Sorry I can't be more help with the ArchiCAD to SU transfer but I do have a solution to my original post. It turns out you have to save down to SketchUp 7. We figured this out a couple weeks ago but thought I'd share and put a bookend on this one. Thanks for everyone's input.

RE: SketchUp to ArchiCad?
Sorry I'm not going to be much help with the conversation from ArchiCAD to SketchUp. My experience is limited. We're transitioning from 2d AutoCAD and SU to ArchiCAD BIM and SU for supplemental stuff. Our hope was actually to use SU as a schematic design tool to help build models in ArchiCAD. Our first go-round so far has been unsuccessful.
Good luck to you and if you find a solution please reply here for others looking for a solution to similar problem.

RE: SketchUp to ArchiCad?
Thanks! It's possible I'll reach a different audience there so I'll put a similar post on their boards. I think the issue is more on the ArchiCAD side though. We've called their tech support and they put us in a queue so who knows when we'll hear back.

RE: SketchUp to ArchiCad?
We tried IFC export and import as well. ArchiCAD gave us an error message when trying to open the file.
I should also clarify that when opening the skp file in ArchiCAD it does create an object but it's just a dot and contains no real information. -
RE: SketchUp to ArchiCad?
Thanks Kris,
We read that saving down to version 5 would work, but it didn't. Not sure if by chance another earlier version would work. Have others had success doing this? -
SketchUp to ArchiCad?
We're having a lot of trouble, as in 0 success, importing a simple SketchUp model into ArchiCad. Googling forums and help from ArchiCAD seems to make it fairly easy, yet by using the tips we've found we simply can't get this to work. Does anyone have any sure fire tips or tricks or perhaps something we've completely overlooked that will allow us to import a model created in 2015 Pro into ArchiCAD 17? ArchiCAD says they have fully integrated support with this release.
Thank you for your help.

RE: Driver problem with SU
That is what I was afraid of. Thanks for your help. Unfortunately I am trying to find a job based in part on my ability to model in SketchUp so I may need to invest in the home desktop/media centerI've been wanting. I've always been supporter of Nvidia over ATI anyway.
Thanks again!

Driver problem with SU
Hello! I discovered this great site yesterday and wish I had found it a long time ago. There is a lot of great stuff here.
I've been using SU for about 4 years now, but I recently purchased a new laptop and SketchUp 7 Pro. Previously I have been running it on my work computer with no issues, but I am having some issues running on my home computer.
Right from the start there was a lot of performance lag on my model. (I started it on my work computer.) I reduced its size considerably and performance got better. However there was still a lot of lag. I started a new model to see if I could identify ways to streamline SU. Right from the start I noticed that I had no selection box. By turning off the darkened profile lines performance also got better.
I've since found this website and turned off HA which gave me the selection box. I've tried the most recent drivers for my video card, older drivers, made other software updates but I can't seem to figure it out. The only thing I haven't tried is re-installing SU.
My Specs:
Dell Studio 1535
Intel Core Duo 2.0GHz 4GB RAM 360GB HHD
Video: Mobile Intel Express Chipset 965I understand the integrated graphics card is not ideal but I would like to think that being a relatively new computer with 3d capability that SU would run better. Any helpful hints, settings I've not figured or anything else to get me up and running would be greatly appreciated!
