I installed a second video card, and now Sketchup consumes 1/2 of my quad-core CPU.
My solution is to only use one video card during use of Sketchup.

I had a Geforce 6800 GT and I installed a Geforce 8800 GT and found that my OpenGL application all dropped performance. DirectX powered applications worked fine. Apparently it's a drive issue.
