We have started a workflow like that and we only have 3 to 4 main components in the model But they have smaller units within them.
It may be matter of sequencing of the updates when we move to constuction details which break down the models into scenes.
Thanks

Model Components when several people work on same file
We make large models in SketchUp which are assemblies of components which are each SketchUp models.
( A large loft apartment that has a Kitchen component, a main room component and a terrace component). We started breaking larger projects into multiple components so that several individuals could work simultaneously creating details and not trying to work in the same main file.
In making detailed construction plans, we keep running into the problem of coordinating changes made in the components and changes made in the master plan.
A change made in the component is fine as long as we save the changes and then reload the components when the main assemblage file is opened. And a change in a component made in the master file is ok if we re-save the file to the component file.
But where we have issue, is when the change made in the assemblage file moves a component in space and in relation to the file axis, any scene which is used to make a detail in the component file also is changed and has to be changed or is deleted when the changed component is saved back to the original file from the assemblage file. ( If the newly saved component is saved over the original file, then all the scenes are deleted and we have to start over making the scenes for details.)
These very fast track set designs and we have to start turning out details sometimes before we get finalized on all the assembled details. (and sometime the finished components have to be adjusted once we assemble them.)
Are there any suggestions for a better workflow and how to allow for editing in the main file and not destroying scenes when the changes are made during the detailing of the Model. Thanks for any suggestions.

RE: Black Crosses
Sometimes the style setting don't translate from SU to Layout.
Right click on the model window and go to Styles and select the style "As modified" in the SU version. The Layout viewing of the style can be different from the actual Su Model. And If point and hatch has been deselected in the Architectural style in SU they will show up in Layout.
I was having the same issue aith those stupid points showing up.
