Thanks for all the replies! Maybe I didn't state the question clearly, but I want just a single dome that I can place on a fixed position on the ring. I need to make several copies with different ring sizes, but the dome should be placed at the same location on each of the rings. The issue is mainly the curved inner part of the ring which makes it hard to place the dome correctly. I think the problem is that the straight bottom part of the dome doesn't match the curved surface of the ring. For now I try to position the dome manually as good as possible and than use ´outer shell´ to make it a solid. But is there an easier way of doing this?

@Pilou, I have attached a version 6 file of the example. Hopefully you can open it now.

Thanks! This helps at least a little with placing the dome on the surface. But Sketchup doesn't seem to recognise the ring and the dome as a single solid piece.

    • Placing object on curved surface

      Hi all,

I have a ring-like object and on the inside of this ring I want to place a dome. The problem is that I don't seem to be able to place the dome accurately on a specific location on the ring. Does anyone have an idea that might help me? It is eventually for 3D-printing, so the object needs to be solid (I use Solid Inspector2 to check this).

I have attached a simplified test file and a printscreen of my attempt to give an idea what I want.
(I have Sketchup pro 2018 and I am a new to Sketchup and thus not very competent.)

      Thanks!

Test file that should include the ring and a dome.

Some ugly unuseful result I obtained to give you an idea what I want.
