Jeff, I think your chip is more realistic, captures the shape more accurately than the original one I did in post #1. All this chip modeling really makes me hungry for the real thing. :

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] How To Create A Potato Chip
Dang! Beat me to it . . . but I think the ridges go "long ways" . . . eh?

RE: [Tutorial > Modeling] How To Create A Potato Chip
Ridges - ha!
I could add another one with ridges but I wanted this first one to be something for newbs - ridges add a little complexity, eh?
Maybe I'll add a ridges tutorial tomorrow - great suggestion - perhaps someone else will beat me to a ridges chip tutorial?
Happy Sketching,
Brad

[Tutorial > Modeling] How To Create A Potato Chip
Hello,
I'm not certain this is the most efficient method of creating this type of geometry, but I hope it's close.
My goal is to show how this nice shape can be created quick & easy - & with great accuracy if desired - to the other newbs like me. This is my first SketchUp tutorial, so go easy with the comments & please feel free to modify & improve the file.
Thanks,
Brad

RE: My First House - First Attempt w/Kerkythea
Here's KT rendering #2 . . . doesn't look like a very comfy chair, eh?

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
Thank you.
Here's a very boring car . . . I think it could be salvaged by adding some details. I need to add mirrors, door handles, lights, part lines (hood, bumpers, et cetera) and then toss one into Kerkythera, although I've only done 2 super-simple renderings with KT so far.
I realize my cars are very rough and that if I spent more time stitching surfaces they'd be smoother - that will come later.
Happy sketching,
Brad

i usually start from an ideea:a front bumper, some front end lights a type of roof,a rear bumper, then if u do another part is all about filling space..but...filling with taste
Yes, so, here's another front bumper - the "shark nose" is already over done - I'll move on to something else . . . filling with taste - very funny, but true - easier said than done, IMO.

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
. . . another ultra-fast model, obviously lacking lots of significant detail . . . looks like I applied the material while wearing a blindfold . . . ? . . .

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
Great advice, thanks.
Here's another very fast car - I didn't have any real idea behind these last two - I think this is obvious. For me, when I have no "direction" or, if I don't have an image of what I want to end up with, it's not very likely I'm going to "magically" have a beautiful model pop up on the screen. There's so much more to great design than just knowing how to use the tool (CAD s/w).
Someone once said, "If you don't know where you're going, there's usually no point in starting the journey" - very true.

My First House - First Attempt w/Kerkythea
This was one of the first projects I ever did w/S/U . . . very rough sketch of a beach haus . . . it's also the first attempt with Kerkythea . . .

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
. . . something silly quick - shape study . . .

-
RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
. . . ugly wheels . . . I'd like to learn how to render using Kerkythera (sp?), so, next week, that's going to be one of my goals . . .

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
. . . it's getting late . . . more tomorrow . . . oh, & before I forget, mega-thanks to all of you who've said kind words about this ongoing project and especially mega-thanks to those who've offered "how to" suggestions and help, especially Ely - these words are very encouraging and I finally feel like I'm beginning to turn the corner and I'm beginning to see where I need to go . . . still have a very long way . . .
Happy Sketching,
Brad

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
. . . maybe I'm just stupid . . . but for me, with my skills (or lack thereof) this is
really challenging . . . but fun

RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
Trying something new (for me) . . . I'm going to get a "rough block" of the car, then soften it up, add details, blah, blah, blah.
I have next week off - one of my goals is to create an quasi-realistic model of the Enzo.
Maybe this is too complex for my skills, but I'm going to try it anyway. I'm guessing that after about 86 or 87 serious attempts at it, maybe I'll start getting it right.
Happy Sketching,

i was wondering if i can post this in warehouse
OF COURSE!!!
That's fantastic!!! Very motivational - this is not thread jacking, but a really great contribution to an otherwise dull and "going nowhere" thread. Thanks Ely for your contributions - beautiful work!!! -
RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
Thanks - sorry I didn't build this car with precision - the geometry is quite messy - I hope that doesn't matter.
I also have a version without the canopy if you'd prefer.
-
RE: Green Toaster's Car Sketches
I had every intention of making this a marshmallow car (softy) but it turned out to be a chop-block car instead . . . I really don't like the canopy - that'll get redone.
