http://www.liv.ac.uk/abe/students/sketchup/05b_output.shtmlI found this works fine for printing something like elevations of a building at 50:1 but had problems printing a drawing of a 1 inch square at 1:1.

I don't seem to be having much luck with Sketchup. All the boxes in PRINT PREVIEW are greyed out apart from PRINTER NAME and PRINT QUALITY. I have checked out all relevant tutorials on printing but can't see what I am doing wrong. Perhaps I should invest in a book on Sketchup. How about 3D Construction Modeling by Dennis Fukai. It's based on
Sketchup 4. How relvant would it be to me using SU 6. The other books on SU seem to be hugely expensive.Franznad

I am sorry I can't seem to get your instructions. I start to draw the line and a figure appears in the VCB say 350cms. I stop, clear the VCB and enter 8cms. I am not sure what this acheiving, because if I use the tape measure to measure it, it is 350cms.

As I am new to Sketchup, could you please elaborate on your instructions regarding drawing an 8cms line.
You say draw the line in real size 8cms. By that do you mean measuring 8cms on the screen?Disable perspective, not sure how you do that.
All boxes in Print Preview and Print are greyed out in my Print Dialog Box. How do you get them working?
You suggest reading information in Help on 'printing' and 'printing to scale'. I checked in the ON Line Search and nothing came up under these two titles. I've also checcked the pdf document on Sketchup and the tutorials but can't seem to find anything relevant to sort this print problem out.franznad

Setting up a scale of 1:20
How can I set up a scale of 1:20. Also eg. Can I draw a line of a specific
length, say 8cms which I know will print out at 8cms.
I'm afraid the tutorial on 'scale' is gobbledegook to me and is no help.

You can get weird effects if you paint the front of the face transparent and the back of the face an opaque material. You can only see through it one way...
Also you need to have transparency 'switched on' in the current style's settings... Edit > Face Settings > Enable Transparency = Ticked...
"Tig" I did try out the one way effect it worked well.
I'm afraid I am a complete novice at Sketchup and am not sure where to find 'transparency'. I've put the word transparency in on line help but there again came up with nothing useful. The end product of this project is a refurbished bathroom, but frankly, I'm struggling with the whole thing. I suppose I should play through all the tutorials again and see what more I can glean.

How do I show I am looking through a glass screen Eg. The rear of a shower cubicle?
There should be a glass texture in your materials library (Window/Materials)
Apply that to a surface and it will become transparant.
You can change the opacity to suit your requirements in the Materials Palette.
Click on the Edit tab and you have several available options to adjust the look of the material."Dylan" Thanks for the info. It works well.
