      +1 to what Adam said.

Lumion's price is high enough already. When you buy a license, it should come complete, not in a "light" form. I'm also quite dissapointed with the current turn of events. At the beginning it was implied that the object library would grow without extra cost to existing customers.

I remember when they said the software was being released "in November". They did so on the very last day of November. Maybe we'll see Update 2 on the very last day of spring, that is, June 20.

Thanks, I'll check it out immediately.

    • Please recommend a good, not too expensive video editor

I've been editing in Windows Live Movie Maker. Everything in it is great, except that video quality suffers after editing. I've tried increasing the bitrate, but it still degrades the video... This only becomes worse after converting from wmv to mp4 for support on more devices.

      My current video workflow is:

-Render High Definition TGA/PNG sequence from LightUp/L*mion
-Assemble sequences into MP4 video clips with VirtualDub and the x264vfw codec
-Edit in Windows Live Movie Maker
      -Convert to MP4 using Handbrake
-Give both the WMV and the MP4 edited files to the client, and also the unedited sequences in both MP4 and JPG format (Converted to JPG with VirtualDub).

Any suggestions are welcome. I'm currently happy with Movie Maker, except for the final quality, so I don't need a lot. My main requests would be:

-Ability to open TGA/PNG sequences directly without needing previous conversion
-Ability to detect hard scene changes in the sequence, and automatically split the sequence into clips
-Save to both MP4 and WMV
-Must handle 720p and 1080p videos of up to 6 minutes without trouble.
      -Fast preview.
-Ability to burn Blu-ray discs would be a nice bonus.

I like Sky.fm and DI.fm. Here are the URLs of some of their free streams. You can tune in using Winamp or VLC. Just go to "Open URL" or "Open stream" and paste everything after http.

First observation: Reflections seem to be hybrid. For closer objects it seems to be using either real-time raytracing or a real-time flat mirror map. Far away objects seem to be rendered using a standard reflection map, either cubical or spherical.

When the large software developers get on board like UBi soft, Valve, EA games, Sierra and Capcom releasing new titles in tablet format, then I will be convinced. I do believe it will happen but not sure when.

      EA Games:

The rest should follow suit soon.

    • RE: What I love and hate of iTunes and iOS

Rich: I have tried before completely deleting all contents and starting it again in another PC, to no avail.

So this time I decided to restore the iPod OS in another PC.

It now works. I feel so stupid. But hey, I did try a LOT of things.

It's ironic that I had to restore the iPod in my parents' tiny HP netbook in order to use the thing in my quad-core fire-breathing monster. I still have no idea about what went wrong with restoring it in my PC.

Update: I've just received a new one from Apple. Same problems. 😞
I already tried everything I could on the first one, so I'm lost here.

I guess you need to get a Mac if you want to have no problems with iPods.

    • Sub-$10 software

Just read some news about Apple's App Store reaching some records.

I'm amazed by the low prices of most of the apps, when compared to those in traditional platforms. For example, if you want to paint on your iPad, you can buy an app for that for under $10. On the desktop you would need to spend at least $40 for the latest version of ArtRage.

Similarly, you can get a nice looking, 1080p-output racing game for $10 on iOS, or spend $60 for one on a console.

Do you believe this trend of low-price software will come to the desktop, too?

dsarchs: I didn't know about the archos. Seems pretty good spec-wise.
The idea of getting an iPod Touch became fixed in my mind after I learned it could be used for Skype calls, as I had been checking out WiFi Skype phones for some time now but none seemed to "get it". The inclusion of two webcams in the latest iteration sealed the deal for me. Before the iPod Touch, I had considered getting a Sony PSP for the same purposes: Games, Music, Video, and Skype.

Ledis, sadly the mobile phone market in my country is a duopoly, and there are no such amazing offerings. Local providers don't even carry the iPhone 4. sigh.

No, no startup manager. Even if I had one, that does not explain having the same problem on another PC with only one OS.

Big thumbs up for WiFi sync. 👍

Man, I already feel bored without my iPod.
