      nomeradona,

I really like the image quality using HDRI. I assume you are using PS Merge to HDR.
      A few questions:
How many bracketted shots are you combining? I guess 5-7, but no less than 3.
Are you also heightening the colour?
I don't have CS2 and have played around with curves/levels etc., for single layered shots but this certainly offers a lot more possiblities.
These have an old postcard desaturated quality, almost hand tinted. Nice.
Have you tried it with portraits?
It is definitely time for a new camera with at least 5 bracket capability.

I also agree that this IS NOT a photo competition site. It's great to see what others are shooting and to explore/share ways to make our shots more artistic.
      cheers,
      DE.

just a vaguely photography related question form a photography newb: whats with the black borders around your photos? I personally find them quite annoying.

just a frame i guess to seperate the picture from the white screen. so as to lead the viewer to the image. did not realized that its annoying sometimes.

I think he was referring to my cropping and hi-conning his photo... not directed at you. I pulled the shot... didn't mean to offend him.

I suppose my question is - Why should Google care about Sketchup beyond the basic tie-ins to things like Google Earth. I can't imagine that the revenues from Pro are that substantial and they certainly take a lot of negative flack from the 'pros' who use it.

Cool shot Remus, but, the part that intrigues me is all the stuff hanging off the tree cage. I would love to see it featured larger in the foreground.

This picture was taken in a park near the University where I had graduated, one year after graduation, in January 2005.
I tried to achieve a "soft water" effect by placing the camera on a minitripod in the border, and using a slow shutter. It was 7pm, so the sky is not completely black, but navy blue.

That's a tough shot without the water backlit.

      Hans,

This 2008 discussion (and model) appears to cover the same issue:
Texture: how to map it to a bending cylinder

Useful tips & techniques are described in that thread.

      Hey,
While this works for 'horizontal' mapping, I am still hoping that someone has a solution or workaround for 'vertical' mapping where the object is a 3D contour.

This issue has come up before and to my knowledge it is not doable in sketchup.
The problem seems to be that while sketchup can paint vertical and horizontal striped sections - it cannot negotiate the complexity of a 3D curved surface.
There was a post a while back where someone was trying to show the layers in curved plywood and the only solution was to treat 'every' layer/stripe as a separate element.

      Fantastic shots Mateo.
I'm so inspired by all this great photography and grateful to 'nomer' for starting the forum. Hopefully, others will share their work.
Mateo, I'm still searching for Croatian wine. I had a chance to try some Mexican wine recently and, well, lets just say they have a ways to go.

Sepo, I love the phone shot. What an amazing world we live in.

    • RE: Apply logo to curved or round surface (cylinder)

I usually create a separate curved section the same proportions as the logo. Import the logo and paint to the section then apply to the cylinder.
Remember, if the logo is not bounded by a rectangle, lets say it's a circle, you will need to create a transparent bg and save as a png.

    • RE: The $1000 Seastead Design Contest

I suppose that my issue with any 'contest/competition' of this type is that the participants are relinquishing all 'rights' to their creation. If you submit a painting, photograph, song composition, short story etc., to a competition, the rules are usually that the 'creation' remains the property of the creator and dependant on the intent of the competition, the winning entries may be subject to certain usage issues. What I don't understand is why in this case the entrants are expected to give up their design rights. Why not just state that the submitted design rights, with the exception of the winners remain the property of the designer.

I'm not questioning the integrity of the Seasteading Institute, it just seems like a lot to give up for the designer.

      Hello,

      @double espresso said:

Right. They own everything that is submitted.

Actually, the opposite is true. The Seasteading Institute doesn't own submitted models. Nobody does. Entries are under the Creative Commons Attribution license which means anyone can copy and modify the models under the condition that the original creator, the contestant, is rightfully credited. This is very different from someone owning it.

I haven't seen any contest involving a submitted product where the rights to the content aren't either given exclusively to the contest holder or is under a public domain license. We chose the latter.

      • Lasse

While you may not outright own the submitted models you and anyone else who wants to can appropriate the work for their own gain as long as they 'credit' the original creator.
As far as I am concerned it is up to the individual to choose whether they want their submission(s) to essentially become part of the public domain.
