in the upcoming service release, we have made the process easier. We apply dependent materials to the proxy preview geometry, and save out a .skp of the proxy component definition in the same location as the vrmesh.

RE: Latest v-ray 2... won't work in Sketchup 2014
There were some major changes in 2014 that require us to have a separate installer for 2014. Anyone with nightly access, can download our latest V-Ray for SketchUp 2014 beta version. Otherwise, we ask that everyone contact support@chaosgroup.com if a 2014 compatible version is needed. Please keep in mind that this is still a beta version, but if we receive positive feedback from this build, it will become our public release build. We are going to be releasing a stability and compatibility patch in the next couple of days, but we do not have an official public build available on our website yet.

RE: Billboard reflection
you could make the back face of the billboard have a material that is 100% transparent also.

RE: V-ray settings
in VfS 2.0, we have option presets, which make exterior setups even easier.

RE: [Tutorial] DR Spawner V-ray 1.49.01
yes, DR stability is improved in 2.0 in all cases.

RE: Vray keeps crashing and hanging
this shouldn't be an issue in 2.0. If anyone is still using the outdated 1.6 BETA version, please upgrade to the latest release. 1.6 was a beta only, was buggy, and was not ready for commercial use.
-
RE: Change default texture directories help
You can't change where we write temporary textures to, without breaking everything. 1.6 doesn't exist. That was a beta version, you should be on 2.0 now.

RE: Sketchup crashes everytime import vismat
yeah, vray.com is not the official website what so ever. You'll notice, at the top of their website (and I believe on every page) there is a notice that says the following: "V-Ray is a trademark of Chaos Software Ltd. The official source of information on V-Ray is chaosgroup.com. This site is not affiliated with chaosgroup.com." If you go to the chaosgroup website, there are materials available for download there, which are official materials.

hi, i have a question , how can i purge the unused materials?
Open the V-Ray material editor, and right click on Scene Materials at the top of the material list, you should see the option there.

RE: Distributed Rendering Spawner VIA INTERNET
NAT is not an issue once you're connected to a VPN, because you're connected to the internal network that lives behind the NAT at that point (unless you have some sort of special setup)

Ruby book for kids!
Hey, I saw this floating around on the web, and I thought I'd bring it to everyone's attention: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/lindaliukas/hello-ruby
It's a kickstarter for a Ruby book for kids. There is a storybook and a workbook, and if they get enough funding, there may even be a mobile app. Since Ruby is SketchUp's language of choice, I thought it might be relevant to the community. We can indoctrinate the children with Ruby before any of those other pesky languages reach out to them

RE: Distributed Rendering Spawner VIA INTERNET
I've used a couple VPN clients, it's all the same though. As long as we can communicate with the DR Spawner, it doesn't matter how you're connected. Be sure to enter the IP address of the machine that is running the DR Spawner though, not the computer name. It's possible to have DNS issues that can cause trouble resolving host names, so if you manually specify the IP address of the machine, you'll have a better success rate.

RE: Problem with leaf mapping in render
you could also hack the VRayPlugins.xml file to modify this setting in 1.49.01... but that's a little dangerous BACK THE FILE UP, PRIOR TO MODIFICATION!!!
<parameter handler="default" label="Use color texture as transparency" listType="none" name="use_color_tex_alpha_as_transparency" type="bool">
<value>
false
</value>
<handlerinfo>
<tooltip>
Enable this if you wish to use the alpha from the color texture for transparency
</tooltip>
</handlerinfo>
</parameter>just have to change the false to true

RE: Indirect illumination question
whoops! I missed that version number... 1.48.93? Any reason you're not using at least 1.49.01? It was a free upgrade. You might end up saving enough time using the wrapper material in to justify the upgrade cost to 2.0. Depends on the learning curve required to do this all in post, and time it takes to actually get the result you want.
Andy- I don't think there's really any other way around it, excluding what has already been discussed, aside from doing two separate render passes. One with just the model, and the other with the ground plane. That's how I would have done it back in the day.
-
RE: Indirect illumination question
ouch! Or you can use the wrapper material on the ground plane, referencing the texture that you are currently using on the ground plane, and set Generate GI to 0.0
-
RE: IES light not showing
it's not an issue in 2.0, and I believe in 1.49.01 we always used inches for the scene units, because that's what SketchUp gave us by default.

RE: Vray distributed render question
just a heads up, the OP posted this thread 4 years ago.
