only RBG and Alpha channels are unlocked in the demo version, just confirmed this. Sorry for confusing the 2.0 and sr1 versions. I haven't used 2.0 since September, I'm always on a development build, and can't keep versions straight in my head.

      16gb 1600 ram

V-Ray for SketchUp only uses 3-4gb of ram, because it's tied to the SketchUp process, unless you use the 64bit workflow (http://help.chaosgroup.com/vray/help/sketchup/150PB/distributed_rendering.htm#settings)

Your graphics card won't be used at all with V-Ray, unless you are doing a RT GPU render.

You can set how many cores your SketchUp process uses to avoid using 100% of your machine for SketchUp/V-Ray if you want. Open the Task Manager, go to the processes tab, right click on SketchUp, and choose "Set Affinity". You can do the same with the XMLDRSpawner. Be aware that this will cause a loss of performance for render times, but it will allow you to have more resources freed up for multitasking.

I think I may have a solution. Don't mess with the transparency in the refraction layer, unless you have more than one refraction layer. Just leave it black

as far as the bundled tools go, those should work fine with the 2.0 version, if you want to just copy the 1.6 tools to a folder prior to uninstalling, and installing 2.0. I don't believe we bundle the tools with the demo, because with a resolution cap, you probably won't need to render out to a vrimg. It also keeps the installer size down a bit.

[edit] Looks like we include the tools with the demos for our other products, so we will update the demo installer in the future to correct this.

    • RE: Enabling 64Bit Rendering

if there are issues with the UI in the demo, they will be present in the 2.0 build as well . From what I could see, the only thing wrong with the UI was that you are using a huge font for your system font, and you need the resize the options panel horizontally.. which apparently isn't something we allow for some reason. Please submit a bug report about this to vfswip@chaosroup.com to avoid it being in 3.0.

Not sure what issue you have with importing vismat materials in the 2.0 demo, we don't lock that down afaik, and it should work the same as it does in the full 2.0 version. Does the material not come in? Are there errors?

understood, we also have a demo version of 2.0 available on our website http://www.chaosgroup.com that gives you watermarks the same as 1.6, except less bugs, more stability, and more features, and better performance. There's really no reason to use an old expired beta version. You're just giving yourself extra headaches by using 1.6

did everyone find the proper download? If not, please contact support@chaosgroup.com. Don't use the demo if you paid for the product. We just need to correct your download permissions if it's not showing up for you!

1.6 is an old beta version, which was never released for commercial use, and is not recommended at all. 1.49.01 did not have the option in question, nor does the 1.6 beta. I seriously recommend upgrading to 2.0, especially since this service release has come out, it's a huge improvement over even the 1.6 beta.

by "latest" do you mean 2.00.24261 or 2.00.23590? This should be resolved in 2.00.24261

if you downloaded the demo version, it will only be a demo. If you can't download a commercial or edu version from our site, and you have a paid license (and dongle) for 2.0, you need to contact support@chaosgroup.com to have your account permissions fixed. The demo does not convert to a commercial or edu version when a dongle is present.

    • RE: SketchUp loads slow and temporarily goes black

I would recommend exporting that landscape as a proxy if you do want it in the scene. 4mil faces isn't an issue with proxies. It's an issue when they are just faces in SketchUp though, because that means we have to crawl through 4 million entity objects in SketchUp, examine what material is applied to each entity, build the mesh, etc... could take ages. If it's a proxy, the geometry is already in a format V-Ray understands, and it can work with it very quickly and with little overhead.

You ran the installer as a different user? Not sure why you would do that, but yes, that will place our plugin in the wrong user's user folder. There is no reason to run the installer as an admin afaik.
