• Exporting Revit 2020 to SketchUp Pro 2019 - WITH MATERIALS

Hi all,

For some reasons I have to export my Revit model to SketchUp for some editing work to be done. May I know is there a way to export Revit model to SketchUp Pro WITHOUT losing all the textures / materials? As the model that I saved as DWG. then importing to SketchUp Pro just shows up in the most random of colours and it is extremely hard to re-material it as everything just gets exploded to tiny little pieces in SketchUp Pro...

Anyone? 😞

How do you plan to use the results with the section cuts? Just as images? If so, I would probably manage this mostly with separate scenes showing different section cuts and exporting those scenes to combine into one in an image editor.

That seems like a good idea! πŸ˜„ Thanks!

1. Yes

2. Section planes are like any other object and can be moved or rotated with the relevant tools.

Thank you so much. πŸ˜„

You can have multiple active section if you put them inside groups.

Thank you, I have some concerns:

1. By groups as in, if I were to group my models in separate groups, I can then double click and go into the individual group and add individual unique section planes to only THAT group without interfering other models in the same file?

2. How do I create slanted section plane like you did?

Thank you so much and I hope u can help me with the above πŸ˜„

• Creating Partial / Selective Cutaway-Section?

Hi all,

Is there a way to create sections / cutaway views which isn't the conventional full box / linear section? I mean something like a section that is a mixture of different section planes? Something which has a different section depth, not the entire model having a section. To make things clear, an example like these:

No. You'll be able to scale it just fine. You won't get a 3D printable stl file, though.

I see. Thanks a lot πŸ˜„

When you select a solid component or group, it will show as such in the Entity Info panel like this:
<!-- ia0 -->Screenshot - 12_20_2019 , 11_21_32 AM.png<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:2d3brzli]

In order to be considered solid, the each edge in a component or group must be shared by exactly 2 faces. No more and no less. So no stray edges, no holes in the surface and no internal faces.

In the case that there is, may I know what will be the adverse effect of it please? Not able to scale it?

One easy way would be to use the Tape Measure tool to measure between two points. Click on both ends and then type the required dimension and hit enter. A window will pop up asking if you want to resize the model. So if you want to scale the model down to 1:100 and the distance between points is 16 feet, type 1.92" (that's inches) for the new distance and hit Enter.

<!-- ia0 -->resize.gif<!-- ia0 -->[/attachment:3nd7mtw8]

Make sure the components and groups in your model are all considered solid.

Thank you so much! But what do you mean by making sure all groups / components are considered solid? What does that mean and how do I check for that please? 😞

• Scaling model To-Scale for 3D Printing?

HI all,

I need help here. Basically I would like to scale my model (that is in 100% scale) to a scale, say, 1:200, or maybe 1:100.
How do I accurately scale it that way via SketchUp? As I want to export it as STL for 3D-Printing...

Thank you very much 😞

I am not too sure how to explain this clearly, but, how do I draw on one Panel and let it simultaneously update the other panels of probably the same component?

Here is an example:

@dave r said:

The easiest thing to do is use the Sketchucation Tools extension to update them. When you open the Extension Store panel it'll indicate that you have extensions that need to be updated. This indication will be displayed in red near the gear icon at the upper left. My extensions are up to date so nothing to do here. If there were extensions to update, you'd click on the gear and in the next window choose Update All.

You can also search for and install extensions from this panel. There are other tools included as well. One that is especially handy when installing a new version of SketchUp or installing it on another computer is the bundles feature. The tool keeps track of extensions you've installed with it in the form of a bundle. You can install that bundle automatically on another machine or in the next version of SU and be assured you are getting the most recent and up to date versions available.

Without using the Extension Store panel, you would download the extensions and then use Install Extension to install them one at a time.

Are you still using SU17 Pro as indicated in your profile?

Hi, thanks for recommending. I installed it but I am trying to save a list of ALL the plugins/extensions I had ever downloaded in it in a "Bundle" incase I need it on another computer. But I am unable to do so... It keeps giving me this instruction which I am not able to click on anything...

If you are using SketchUp 2019, how did you install the updated extensions without using Install Extension in the Extension Manager? If you just dropped the rbz file into the Plugins folder, you didn't actually install it.

If you installed the SketchUcation Tools extension as I suggested, you can make sure that Fredo's tools are included to be watched for updates and included in your bundle by reinstalling them through the tool. You can get to just Fredo's tools by selecting his name in the drop down of the search window (click on the magnifying glass at the bottom of the panel.

Just curious, if I choose to manually update it (since I didnt see ur post before updating it), do I have to delete the previous rbz. on the directory after installing again to update on the extension manager?

• How do I really Update Fredo6 / FredoTools?

Hi all,

I am trying to update my Fredos' for the first time and it seems like after clicking "Info" from sketchup fredo6, it brings me to Sketchucation and nothing happens.

Do I have to like REINSTALL the previous plugins (like the entire Fredo6 for my case) and install the new one again...?

Thanks!

• May I know what Tool/Plugin is this?

Hi all,

I was watching some SketchUp Plugin tutorials on youtube and I chanced upon a video which I am pretty confused on which plugin provides such function?

Video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ot4PF_UphUs

On the 0.35 time mark. He uses a plugin where he can literally turn ALL Sharp edges into a ROUND / Fillet edges. What plugin is that may I please know?

• RE: How to Make Material Patterns into ACTUAL Lines?

@dave r said:

SketchUp won't convert raster images to vector lines. You could trace over a section of the texture image or manually draw a brick pattern using the Rectangle or Line tools. Once you've modeled a little bit of it, you can create an array with Move/Copy to complete the pattern.

Oh alright! May I know how do I create an array? As I estimate to have like atleast a Thousand or 2 Thousand bricks to draw...!! So I have to copy and paste so many? 😞

• How to Make Material Patterns into ACTUAL Lines?

Desperately in need of help!!

Basically I need some Brick Patterns on my SketchUP Model (Which is ALOT of Bricks by the way). I know there is the material that I can "paint" on it. BUT I want my model to be exported in Isometric view as Vectors (EPS) and also AutoCAD. So I need the Materials to be actual lines and not just image...

I tried applying Hatch Patterns on autocad but the results isn't correct as I need the hatches to be in ISOMETRIC form, as AutoCAD just gives me a flat hatch that doesn't align isometrically.

Please help! I kind of read something about Skalp but I really can't afford to pay... 😞

Anyone please?
