I am interested in the workflow to create a model of the Cessna 195.
The attached file has 3-views that have been drawn from factory drawings. They have been imported as dwg files and set over a common point. I have seen what has been done in the past and I am wondering if using
the Artisan plugin to create this would now be the best way to do this. I have seen some of the great work done with Artisan but most of it is free form and fantasy, I want to use it to create engineering models. This will be used to laser cut a kit at 1/3 scale of the full size. ( 144" wing span)
I have done this before with Rhino and T-splines but I am hoping that I could do this SketchUp as well. I want to use exploded views for the assembly instructions. I build and fly giant scale planes in competitions as my hobby and I also kit some of the plans.

      Thanks

    • Building Models

I have been a member for sometime but never had the time to learn SketchUp until now.
What I am doing is building a model in sketchup that I am going to lasercut all of the pieces to build a 1/4" = 1'-0" model for display. I have made all of the pieces components and now I am laying them down flat to export a dwg file that I can import into Corel. Corel is what drives my laser cutter. Is there a plugin that will automatically select the components and lay them flat? If anyone has done this before I would like to hear any pointers that you may have.
Attached is the file that I am working in.

      Thanks

      Larry

    • RE: Roof Help

      Thanks Gaieus,

This leads me to some questions.

Did you use the line tool to make these faces?

There is a line from the front to back in the big section of roof that you made that seperates two surfaces. Can this line be deleted and make this one surface?
When I delete it the surface goes away.

The same thing happens with the small triangle of roof on the rear.

The red roof should be on the same plane as the left side roof. The main front to back ridge line should extend back 8" more to line up with the fascia.

Thanks for your help. I have been using Microstation since 1982, when it was an Intergraph product, and I am now trying to learn new ways to present designs with SketchUp in my architectural practice.

Anyone have any hints or tips?

      Thanks
