    • How can i get rid of these bits?

Im trying to export a 2d model of this terrain with this dam on top. however, parts of the terrain underneath are showing through through the dam model where the 2 surfaces get close to each other.

any ideas of how i can get rid of these/ stop them from showing?

      Thanks

      Chris

    • How to spot intersection errors???

Im having a problem where im intersecting a TIN with a grouped component and a rectangle. After performing the intersection, the rectangle has not properly intersected with the TIN and model (i.e. when i select it, the whole rectangle is selected).

Does anyone know of a plugin or an easy way to find where in the geometry is causing the intersection error? (- i dont think the procedure itself is wrong as the same process worked in another project an hour ago - it seems its just something wrong with the geometry!!)

      Thanks

    • Problems intersecting terrain

i am trying to find the volume of a quarry. i have imported lidar data successfully and have triangulated the point cloud to give me a 3d surface.
i then drew a rectangular prism and placed it where i wanted to measure the volume to (ie the top surface intersecting the terrain at the upper lip of the quarry.
i then smoothed the terrain to remove the triangles etc., selected both the rectangular prism and the terrain surface, and slected intersect faces>with model.

after a long amount of time the process ran successfully and a line now seperates the terrain and the upper surface of the box. i exploded the terrain surface and tried to delete the part of the terrain i didnt want however the terrain surface still acts as a whole (as opposed to the rectangle which has a hole removed seperated from the top).

obviously i would like to remove the surplus terrain so i can group the terrain and the upper surface of the box thats left so i can caluclate the volume.

i just cant understand why the terrain is not effected by the intersection process!!!!!!

any help would be greatly appreciated

    • I cant find a way to import .asc format lidar data

i recently purchased some lidar data which came in a .asc format. i have since downloaded a plugin to import ascii files (called .stl importer i think), however this will only allow me to import .stl files not .asc. consequently i have also tried to convert the .asc file to .stl but havent had much luck either.

i have also tried the plugin 'cloudv8' however i can only assume that the format of the .asc file is wrong as it does not find objects to display and triangulate. (i am pretty certain that in this case, the data is there but in the wrong format).

i have also used a program called microdem and have converted the .asc file into a .dem, however, when i import this into sketchup the data is horribly distorted and is displayed in a tall, thin column (clearly not representing the actual data).

i imagine i need to somehow alter the .asc file so that it becomes recognisable to the cloud v8 plugin or .stl importer.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i am tearing my hair out over this.
