    • Replicating detail on curved surfaces

      Hi,

I'm new to the forum, but have been doing bits and pieces with Sketchup for a while.
I haven't tried anything complex up until now, particularly with curved surfaces.

I'm trying to draw a worm gear within a slip clutch, please refer to the two images.
One image is of a slip clutch design that I found on the net, it's similar to what I'm trying to design. The second image is of the bronze gear that I now own. It is 230mm in diameter, 12mm deep, with 359 teeth. It was made by Ed Byers in the USA, a renowned maker of gear systems for astronomical telescope mounts.

I would like to know how, in Sketchup, to go about replicating the teeth around a curved surface?

I haven't even considered how I would draw the worm itself!?!

I've searched the forum, and looked for Sketchup models, but to no avail.

      Your advice would be appreciated!

      Thanks

      Chris
