To hide the proxy, you can duplicate the proxy subGroup, then move it out of the group with the proxy. Then hide the proxy group and use the duplicated subGroup.

Both the flash animations posted on this page seem to play at a really fast speed, making it impossible to follow what's going on. Is it just my PC, or is this intended? The speed prevents me from learning things about the plug.
I updated the pillow tutorial so it plays back at normal speed.

Here's another quick tute on creating a soft pillow in SketchUp using SubSmooth.
Note: edited to update link to slower playing animation.

I tested it on my MacBook without issue. I used the free version of SU6. I did not use Smustard installer as I was a beta tester.

Wow! That's a really cool video!
Thanks Dale,
BTW, for those who haven't yet seen the video, it shows the knife tool working in Parallel Projection mode. The knife tool is a FANTASTIC addition to this plugin. IMO, It alone is worth the $22. You'll certainly find more uses for it outside the SubSmooth stuff as well.
Great stuff.

Chipp, that link makes both Safari and IE go boo-boo. It's an evil link. Why do you post evil links? Do you whish to taunt us? Are you evil? ... no more coffee for me today. I'll try with Firefox later on.
It works fine here on WinXP both IE and Firefox. It would help if you could tell me more details, such as what platform you are on. The URL is a basic URL provided by the screencast webservice. They've been in business for years providing screencasts-- I would expect them to have figured out the cross-browser compatibility issues.
One last thing, what version of Flash plugin are you using? I think this playback format needs version 8.

Congratulations Dale.
As if anyone needed anymore convincing...
Here's another tute showing Subdivide and Smooth in action. (No audio)

For me personal, I would love to use the plugin as a mean to create some 'irregularity' in my architectural setups.Creating not so perfect walls, some modeled pavements, beveled corners, a cushion here and there etc...
Biebel,
I recently commissioned a plugin from Jim we called "Jitter" after a similarly named function in Lightwave. It takes all the vertices in a group and offsets them by a user defined number in a random axis. It's great for creating 'not so perfect' stuff.
Hopefully, he'll publish it soon.

RE: In Development: Subdivide and Smooth
I look at it a bit different. If I want to do ONLY box Sub-D modeling, I'll use Modo or Silo or other. But sometimes, you need to add a 'bit' of organic modeling to your model. Perhaps it's a chair, or a soft curve in a wall, or some exterior landscape elements. For this, it's easy to just 'do it in SketchUp' with Whaat's plugin.
Modeling a whole house using Sub-D would certainly overwhelm SU's ability to manage hundreds of thousands of polys.

My apologies to all I may have offended.
Mr. Baker.
No offense taken whatsoever. I was only attempting to understand your original meaning. You now have explained it well. Thank-you. -
RE: In Development: Subdivide and Smooth
I'm just trying to understand what the intent of the original point was? Why would a developer not want to release a plugin for both the free and Pro versions of SU? I, really don't understand why this would be a good thing. Perhaps I'm just a bit dim and not paying attention-- wouldn't be the first time

I'm not being facetious or trying to be mean.
"fa·ce·tious–adjective
not meant to be taken seriously or literally: a facetious remark."I think you are being facetious, or I'm missing the intent of your message. Or are you actually suggesting not allowing the plugin to run on free versions of SU? Is that even possible?
Yes. You must be kidding.

RE: In Development: Subdivide and Smooth
I think a bit different on this topic. I would hope the SubD plugin is priced high enough to make the developer a bit of money-- enough so he continues to create quality plugins. While this plugin won't turn SU into a SubD modeler like Modo or Silo3D, it does allow SU users to easily create shapes which until now were difficult if not impossible to make.
I encourage plugin developers to create professional packaged solutions, with tutorials and charge a fair price for them. Once they start making decent money on them, there certainly will be even more powerful and professional plugins, adding never before seen capabilities to SU.
I would think a $25-40 range would be more inline with the various capabilities of this particular plugin. Just my 2 cents.

RE: Shuttle
Nice job, Pete! Great model. Just curious, how did you map it? In SU, or in something like UVMapper?

Well, then consider this a good time to consider getting a job. It's important in life to learn anything worth having is worth working for.

Thanks guys. I've been working with Jim on fixing me up. Much appreciated!

RE: [Obsolete] Offset On Surface (v1.0)
Hi Fred. Just wanted to add my 2 cents and say 'much appreciated' for the fine work you've done on this and your other plugins. They truly make a difference in not only the ease-of-use of SU, but in whether or not one even choses SU to create models with. Thanks a bunch!

Jitter plugin?
I'm looking for a script which randomly moves the points in a group (or selection, either or both). Ideally one would set the amuont of 'jitter' for the points using a dimension. So, for instance if one 'jittered' a set of faces by 1/2 inch then all the points would move in a random direction by 1/2 inch, thus creating a "distressed" look for the object. I assume SU would automatically triangulate the resulting faces for correct display.
Does anyone know if such a plugin exists? Would anyone like to write one (I can pay $$)? I would think this would be a pretty simple task, and I'd jump in and try, but I know zip about Ruby and SU and don't right now have the time to learn.
Thanks in advance for any help or insight to such a plugin.
best regards,
Chipp -

So if I understand well, you can keep on modeling the low poly proxy and it will automatically update the rounded object right?
Yup...that's the idea. IMO, Dale has done a darn good job with workflow. While you can auto apply textures, it does take longer. But, you can apply them at the end when you upscale your Sub-Divisions for your final model. For me, it's a pretty intuitive interface and workflow.
