    • RE: SketchUp Portable?

SketchUp works good with Ubuntu installed on a thmbdrive.
Install ubuntu to thumbdrive same as to HDD, for more info see:
      http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=922782
After this install SketchUp, let it install what it suggests
      Go to /home/YOURNAME/wine/drive_c/windows/regedit.exe
      expand HKEY_CURRENT_USER
expand software, google, sketchup, glconfig, display and click HW_OK
      Change the value to 1.
In wine configuration add SketchUp to applications and set windows version to XP.
open SU and close the startup windows as quick as possible, may need a reboot.
SketchUp only works when the thumbdrive is plugged into a computer with Nvidia card.
      Hopefully a screenshot is attached.

    • RE: SU for linux?

I suspect that how well SU runs on Linux is all a matter of hardware, from HDD to GPU.
Attached screen shot is SU running in XUbuntu booted from external PATA USB HDD on Asus P5N and 8800 GTS, (FX 4600 soft modded).
SU also seems to work well when I boot this drive form a P5K and 8800 GT and from P2B with 6800 GT.
Booting from Asus Z70va based laptop with ATI X700 I get the black screen, but the icons and pointer look normal, (have not tried modifying xorg.conf yet).
Booting from Intel DG945GCLF (mITX) with Atom and 945GC I get OGL error "ChoosePixelFormat Failed".
(but can get black screen booting from internal SATA disk).
Booting from Intel D201GLY2 (mITX) with SiS graphics I suggest never buying anything associated with SiS.
Booting from Asus EEEPC 4GS I get OGL error "ChoosePixelFormat Failed".
Wife's Via MB will not boot from the external drive. have not tried installing on her internal drive yet as she is still using Fiesty and I can only get it working with Hardy.
When I tried the same tests booting Ubuntu from a fast thumb drive it seems to work about the same, from a slow thumb drive the little man at the origin goes missing.

    • RE: SU for Linux ?

SketchUp seems to be working very well with Wine 1.0.
      If you have trouble try
Opening your wine menu and open the C drive (/home/user/.Wine)
      Open the Windows Folder
Find Regedit.exe and run it with Wine
      Find: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Google\SketchUp6\GLConf ig\Display
There are three entries - Look at the bottom one, name 'HW_OK"
Double click it and change the data from a 0 to a 1.
      If you still have problems
Go to window, Preferences, OpenGL, and quick;y change setting before it has a chance to Bug Splat.
Everything seems to work for me however,
I understand from other threads in this forum that some of the Rubys don't work.

    • SketchUp on Linux

SketchUp now seems to be running 100% with wine in Umbuntu Linux.
Windows is looking like a thing of the past.
Is there any discussion on this subject in the forums?
Search did not give any results
