RE: Getting flustered sketchup make
I haven't been successful at printing any yet. There is always something wrong with it after netfabb and using slice3r to convert it to g codes. My biggest problem is my stl parts files that came with my kit works fine. If anyone knows on on sketchup or thingsverse that I can bring to sketchup that is a clean file I could try please let me know so I can try it. Thanks

RE: Getting flustered sketchup make
Just for my own info if I export file out of su and then open it in netfabb doesn't that clean up any problems that su may make on exporting? Thanks

RE: A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
Hi all. I just joined less then a week ago. I have a garden train and I thought building a reprap 3d printer would help me in different areas of creating figures and such. Really enjoyed building the printer and it went well and prints good. BUT taking a skp 3d file and get bit ready for printing is something I wasn't expecting. I posted my first situation in newbes hoping I will learn something about stl files. I like the 3d warehouse as there is a lot of people files there. but haven't had any luck printi8ng any yet. but I'm sure it's something I'm doing wrong. I love fourms as there is so much intelligent there and always wanting others to succeed. I have been reading so much trying to get a handle on this I think my eyes are getting carpal tunnel vision.
Thanks, So much to learn so little time.

RE: Getting flustered sketchup make
I tried the netfabb cloud first and got same results. I thought once I found a stl file all I needed to do is slice it to g codes to my reprap. Sure got that wrong. Don't know how I would ever know if the stl file would make a good object.
I added a picture of what happens but not sure it went. Has anyone ever found problems with a too weak computer causing problems? I just ordered a fast with more memory. Thanks for all the help. -

I have tried others and have similar problems.
here is the file. I am new to this so like laying it down to print I'm not sure how to do that.

Getting flustered sketchup make
This may be boring but I have just built a reprap printer and it works great with any stl. files that was sent to me with the kit to make additional replacement parts. So I established it can print stl files sent out of slic3r as G codes to my printrun host software.
But that is it. I have a g scale train layout and I want to get some 3D people and print them out. So I will explain my sequence and maybe someone can tell me what I am missing.
- I download a skp file (3D_Man_Waving.skp) to a file. (I like 3D warehouse because they have a lot of already made 3d people) .
- I open sketchup software then import the skp file as a stl. file.
- I do nothing to the person and select all and export it to a file as a stl.
- I open it into netfabb basic and do the repairs and everything looks good, green)Then export it as a stl. file.
- I open it up in slic3r and export g codes to a file. it says manifold yes and the other stuff. All is well.
- I open the g code with printrun host software and hit print.
The file is, standing man waving, and when it starts to print both legs print for about 20 moves then it leaves one leg and runs only the left leg and now the leg would be too high for the hot end to go to other leg and then it starts printing the right leg but about 1/2 inch too high.
I read and read and am getting flustered. I thought if I tried one that other pros make it would fly through the process. So if you could tell me what I am doing wrong I would really appreciate and will try everything. Thanks in advance Jim
