    • Color by layer

I have a sketchup model that has 3D .dwg models imported. Because of the size of the building and not really knowing how to use sketchup we added all the materials to layers, checking the color by layer box. This works fine when we are doing front, back and side images. But when we try to do a perspective view and import cars from the 3D warehouse if the color by layer is on our cars have no color. What is the easiest way to either fix our model so we don't have to use color by layer or get the cars to import with color?

Our final product is a 24x36 pdf or print with 5 elevations of a building. Only one showing a perspective with cars. We have found a work around, putting an image with cars only and perspective into photoshop. Only problem with that is the file size is like 75mgs and we can't get it to reduce enough.

      thanks for the help!

    • Importing files

I'm having issues with importing a .skp file of cars and people into another .skp file of a building. When I change the views of the building (front, back...) the file of the cars also rotate. I want them to stay in the front of the building. Do I need to explode the cars file or is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks in advance!

    • Help with finding a certain style

Hi. I am working on exterior elevations and looking for a certain "style". Right now we are just using the default that really has not sketchyness to it al all. The problem we are having is short verticles lines aren't showing up, like on edges of a cornice. So it looks incomplete. I haven't tried making a style in style builder yet. Is there anyway to adjust or have 8" lengh lines.

    • RE: No black "outline" on letter

Sorry, I am very new to sketchup. We are just switching over to sketchup from Viz. Our model is imported from autocad drawn in 3d. We have assigned material/colors to the layers we had set-up from autocad, probably not the best way to do it but we are just starting. Anyway, the issue is signage on the building. The letters are white on a blue background. When the drawing is on a 24x36 layout sheet the white text is not readable (the text is about 26" high). The scale is 1" = 20'.

Thanks. Yes it's 3D text with white letters, but I only want it to effect the text not the entire model.

    • No black "outline" on letter

Hi, I'm using Sketchup Pro 8. Is there a way to not have black lines around text? The text is white and at a small scale the text with outlines is hard to read when put into layout. I am working a big box retail...any tips to remove lines? Thanks!
