RE: SketchUP 8
I am using SU as an architect for seven years now and still think it was a great idea to start with.
Now ,reading all these remarks, I like to ask if it isn't about time that some folks start to think about making a real professional modelling program, ahead from the free Sketchup versions and much more aimed to the needs for all professional users.
Come on, folks, show me... -
SU and Snow Leopard
I installed Snow Leopard today and was very curious how SU would behave
Well, nothing wrong with them.
Smooth and fast.
Did not use LayOut till the first update. -
RE: Laptop with good Wifi?
Try Apple MacBookPro on (Airport) Wifi; very good connection. Steady and fast.

RE: LU scenes video
Yes Kwist, I think it's possible.
I did not switch "direct sun" on because I like to have the sundown atmosphere with the additional lights as we planned them.
The video is rather short and quick because the original AVI is about 1Gb, the MP4 however just 3 Mb and rendering time just 42 seconds.
That is what surprised me very much because it's real time and with a SpaceNavigator you can go and look wherever you want.
Thanks for the comment.
BertbPS I tried the combination with lights and the sun ; it is no problem buth the result is too shiny, even burned.
Would be okay if I did't have so many lights inside
So I leave it the way it is -
LU scenes video
Some of my recent work in SU with LU, scenes real time rendered.
gives an idea for clients and others.

RE: Running Windows on a MAC
I use my Macbook with VMWare and Win XP; no problems. Autocad and some other stuff are running even better than the combination I have in my office with a Win PC- , sharing a 24" monitor and also connected with the Macbook.

Me too, no problems whatsoever,
at least untill now -
RE: New MacBook Pro NVIDIA 9600M GT
I use my Macbook PRO 15' unibody for two months now, switching from my Sony 17" AR21 laptop as a first time Mac user
I am very confident with my new workhorse . It is twice as good as the previous one,; beautiful screen, very quick and no problems as long as you don't use high poly files of over 10mB
The connection with my Windows desktop, the 24"monitor is okay and I have it running with Windows on VMware to import Autocadfiles
As plugins I use Podium, Light-up and my favourite 3Dconnexion mouse
The rendered scenes from Lightup are a very good way to present complex designs to my clients and are looking much better than before probably due to the GPU's in use
Good luck

RE: System choice; to Mac or not
Thanks for your comments; it helps me in my decision to switch.
Just this remark :
[quote="bigstick"]. It runs XP reasonable well under VMWare Fusion, but SketchUp is slow.
Has anyone any relevant information how quick SU runs on the new Apple MacbookPro 15"
Would be very interesting to hear

System choice; to Mac or not
Hello everybody, I'm back after a busy summer.
In the mean time my notebook (Vaio AR21, 17", 18 months old) broke down, GPU problems ; rows of pixels down;bad or no service; on my officeI have a desktop of 5 years old, 24" monitor and hardly any problems, Normally I use to work in a combination of SU and Autocad and, if needed some rendering programs, very easy under WinXP but now considering a switch to Mac.
My work is architectural and my SU files are between 8 and 12 Mb; rendered in Podium or (happy with it) LightUp.
Question 1: Now buying a Macbook Pro ,15" for working on the road, giving presentations (comparing with my 17" now ), working on the office with a 24" monitor is a good choice to get use to the MacOS ?
Question 2: If 1. goes well, buying a MacPro for the office with the best specs I can get (see Hardware etc in this forum) and so change the complete system for an affordable budget in a couple of months?
Question 3. I'm used to have Autocad open all the time using SU, due to quite complex plans I have to look at. As Autocad doesn't run directly on MacOS and I dont want to switch through Parallels or Bootcamp how do you guys a. import DWG or DXF files in SU? Do you convert all plans and use them in Vectorworks? As you will have noticed I am not very experienced but did mana untill know.
All of your advises, warnings and opinions are most welcome. -
