it appears to have knocked down the requirements by 1GB once I've loaded a project - which seems positive.
I will run it this way for a while and see if thats the headroom it needs to remain stable.
thanks again for your time

Are you using a 3D Connexion device like their Space Navigator? The 3Dx plugin is a known culprit for what you describe.
thank you. i am indeed.
but I've had it happen when the space nav wasn't attached - does it cause the issue regardless, as in i need to uninstall the connexion drivers ?
i monitored my work today and my only obvious take away was with nothing running (at least that i can control) the machine uses 2.56GB of memory. with SU running but not using it uses up another GB so am close to my 4GB capacity straight away.
thanks for checking in - only extensions are fredo6 corner and scale.
i just moved to this new machine recently. I've never had this error message before either - it acts sort of like a memory leak, by the time i get the pop up message its way too late to do anything about it. i can only force quit the application. i also started running cpu monitor in the background to see if i could catch some of the conditions around when it occurs.
I'm currently running the following;
macbook air 1.4ghz, intel core i5
4 gb 1600 mhz ddr3
osx 10.9.5
SU version Pro 2015
v 15.3.329
i realize this is around the minimum requirement for running SU. I've recently gotten an error which states the application has run out of memory. it give me the "spinning wheel" and an option to either terminate SU or the Finder. would this behavior be consistent with running a system that is just too lean ?
thank you
