    • "foam" of voids plugin ?

I would like to reduce the density of a solid object before 3D printing it in ABS. Are any of you aware of a plugin that creates a "foam" of voids within a solid object?

I was thinking of spherical voids, stacked in tetrahedrals (like oranges in a grocery), but cubic voids on a Cartesian grid would be OK too.

      Thanks, Everyone

      Hello All,

In my hands, OSCoolean generates the intersection between two overlapping cubes. But, OSCoolean does not generate the intersection between the two solids in the attached file. Is my "wing" just too complex? The "wing" is a CurviLoft output. Any reason to believe the solid tools in SU 8 Pro, or other non-free tools, would succeed?

      I appreciate everyone's patience. I am a beginner.

      Thanks!

EDIT: Sorry, I just found the Fredo6 at PayPal menu item in Curviloft. All set here.

      Thank you Dave R.

Do you recommend I install this plug-in, in order to follow your instructions?

That would be fine. I just want to do this right.

OK, it appears I may be looking for free versions of the Solid Tools in the Pro version of Sketchup 8. Moderator, if this request is not appropriate, please delete. Thanks! Andrei

And following some previous guidance, here is the file saved as Sketchup V6.

    • Intersect solids plug-in ?

      Hello All,

Can anyone recommend a plug-in, which can process two overlapping solids, to generate the following three solids?

      (a) intersection of solid 1 and solid 2
      (b) in solid 1, but not in solid 2
      (c) in solid 2, but not in solid 1

I recognize any of these outputs might consist of multiple fragments.

For example, starting with the gray and blue solids in the attached file, I would like to cut the region of overlap from the gray object, and save the region of overlap as a new object.

      Thanks!

      Andrei

Would someone please direct me to a "Donate" button for this plug-in?

sdmitch, did I understand correctly, the SKP file you uploaded was created by a plug-in you just wrote, which accepts a guide points and connection matrix input? If so, that's a great plug-in! Andrei

      Pilou, sdmitch, and TIG,

I very much appreciate your help. Now I'm generating thousands of guide points in Excel. I think editing a connection matrix in Excel would be just too much. But for me, using Connect Guide Points to create tens of 2D airfoil sections, and then CurviLoft to create 3D surfaces between them, is working OK. I haven't yet validated Pilou's suggestion to save as V6 skp, but I am pretty confident the intermittent troubles CurviLoft has with outputs from Connect Guide Points is addressable by a file handling SOP.

What a capable and helpful community.
