Question: does Sketchup work like vector programs?
SketchUp ISa vector program so it should definitely behave as such.
Another tip: there are templates in SU -if you are a ne user and installed SU recently, you had to choose a template at the beginning.
Now keep in mind that you can always create your own templates - just modify a new file/model as you wish (this means all style settings, included components like Sang is included in some, even scenes, pre-made layers etc.) AND of course, views in the way how "big" scale you are working. A woodworker would obviously like to start a new model from much "closer" than a landscape architect for instance.
When you have set up everything, you can save your model in File > Save as template and then choose this new template to start SU with every time you use it at Window (Skethup on Mac) > Preferences > Templates.
Note that always work in "real scale" (1:1) except in very extremely small/large scales. Materials are (and new materials always should be) also "scaled" to real life.
