    • RE: Importing TIN from AutoCAD and Projecting Aerial

Thanks everyone! As a newbie I imagined projecting a texture would be easier if I turned my triangles into a group or component, but when I explode the component and paint my triangle faces individually I get a very nice looking surface.

      Thanks again!!

    • Importing TIN from AutoCAD and Projecting Aerial

      Hi everyone,

Hoping that someone can help me out with the issue I am experiencing. I am generating a .tin with a terrain modeling program (Bentley Inroads) and saving the triangles I generated as a .dwg file. When I import into Sketchup V. 7 (pro) the triangles appear as a component. I have then gone through the process of aligning an aerial image to the triangle network and projecting it onto the surface using the paintbucket tool. However, when I do this I get a lot of distortion and no clear image on my surface. My guess is that the problem lies in the fact that I am importing a large number of unconnected triangles which are importing as individual FACE features. I think I somehow need to convert these into a single mesh SURFACE feature, but I am unsure of how to accomplish this. Note that I am using the "merge coplanar faces" command but it is only merging some of my triangles.

      Help would be appreciated, thanks!!
