My workflow is I render the sketchup model with Global Illumination and then run it in fotosketcher then overlay the image in Photoshop.
It's similar to davidh workflow but I've added some of my style to it to make it more interesting and unique. Actually for every image there is a different set of parameters and blending modes in Photoshop.

Your right it seems floating but it's not and I am having a hard time showing shadows in that area....

Here are my tries with davidh's watercolour technique, davidh's technique is very cool and easy to do...I guess more practice to improve my work...
The only variation that I did with the technique is I used Maxwell Render instead of Twilight for the GI part..
