Bruce,
Thankyou that teach was brilliant.
Alan.
PS. I had to do a few workarounds on the Yahoo site. I've added to Bruces lesson notes, and will post a link to explain the problems I experienced and how I solved them.

Bruce
After lesson 1, the test.
Submit an image on this forum. Okay
This shot was taken at Eaton Hall, Chester. Left to right
The Duke of Westminster PR, my better half Barbara, and the head forester.Submit a model or document. I choose a model.
The sketchup image is of a jewellers saw that I use when removing the waste between the pins of dovetails when I make them by hand.

If it does its thanks to Bruce, and thanks to Coen for this great facility.
fingers crossed.

RE: Thanks Guys!
Ross,
I know its bigger than sketchup, hence my postings on quite a few other topic in this forum. Calm at work by Paul Wilson, and quite a few others off topic. On the old forum I was more interested in building my knowledge. In this one, I have a bit more time to have a gab, and I certainly think the images make a difference.Talking about tall ones, I measure up around 6 5". A few long ones in this forum.
cheers

RE: Thanks Guys!
Ross,
Thanks for that.
I only got into sketchup in August last year and didnt really have much to offer. I did post a couple of tutorials once I felt comfortable with my skill base. I've a bit more to offer now.
cheers

RE: Blogs?
Bruce
Well another lesson learnt.
I said that I wanted to make my own notes. No need to do that. When you visit the link provided by Bruce to his lesson I did this
1 I opened up a word document.
2 I copied all of the lesson
3 Pasted it into my word document
named it web page building by Bruce and I dont have to make my own notes. Now I know this is damn obvious to some who have been doing this for years but not, to the beginner.Thanking you Bruce.

Hi Bruce,
You said
*Alan...I am a bit confused as to why you would use a "search" text box.Your browser has an "Address" text box...that is where you put the url...you don't need to search for it you have it.*
Reply.
Thats what happens when you're a complete beginner at this. I think it great that I'm making these mistakes, learning from it, and other beginners will benifit.Thanking you.
Alan.
PS back to repeat the process and make notes. -
RE: Blogs?
Bruce,
I'm sorted now. For other peoples benifit what was I doing wrong? Two things
- I obviously didnt type in the full details which are.
http://My web page details.com/sketchup
2 I have two toolsbars now. Google and Yahoo.
When I typed in the correct details in the Yahoo search and
pressed enter, it didnt find anything.
When I repeated the exercise with Google it worked and I found
the root directory. What I would like to do now please is have 5 minutes to make a brew.
I would then like to repeat the whole exercise again, make my own notes, so I can repeat the exercise unaided.Thanking you.
speak soon
Alan.

RE: Blogs?
Bruce
Im up to here. I have my sub-directory named sketchpLesson
So now you have a URL (universal resourse locator) that looks something like this http://www.ibuildmodels.com/sketchup/I Cannot see my URL
htttp://www.hand-cut-dovetails.com/sketchup/so the next part I cannot complete yet.
Paste it into your browser location field, hit enter and see what happens. The browser should now display thisβ¦β¦(without the resident files of course)
If you will give me 2 minutes I try again

RE: Blogs?
Bruce
This is what I am seeing when it loads.Top menu
site page-change layout (something hidden) save preview publishbox comes up
'Welcome and lets get ready to build
Asks me to select a category- i do that
Asks me about the business I do that
Press next button. And nothing happens.I'll try it again
Alan -
RE: Blogs?
Okay Bruce
I signed up and the page that you mentioned comes on screen, however it then does not allow me to take control, but loads the wizard automatically, and prevents me from going to step 2 in your tutorial.

RE: Blogs?
Hi Modelhead,
Glad you are back in this space helping others.I will play with sitebuilder as advised. I love the idea of getting ones feet wet, so to speak, because you learn so much from your mistakes. In fact, I would say more so, because of all the problems you have to solve. And then you learn something more. Then eventually you've cracked the nut, and its time to move on to the next problem.
With regard to your point that you feel that you are going
into too much detail. I personally think that great teachers start with the basics, and are willing to answer any questions. I am a beginner, I do like to know all the details, and I think that it is essential.Looking forward to the class on Wednesday.
Thanking you again.

RE: Blogs?
Hi guys,
I've signed up to the Yahoo starter package, downloaded their web page building tools and I'm as happy as a pig in ....For those thinking of using the same package that I have purchased, Yahoos web page building tools will only work with Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
Their package will allow you to use some other software to build your web pages. You need to check this out.
I'm think I'm so damn lucky having someone on this forum walking me through, step by step, building my skills and taking me to another level.
A big thumbs up to Bruce.
Alan, sorry got that wrong

RE: Blogs?
Hi guys,
Well some people cannot see the bigger picture eh.We have Modelhead who has been running with a particular product for years, is willing to share that knowledge with brand spanking new beginners on the subject like myself, for free.
Just think of all the people who would benifit from this help. What would it cost for 1 to 1 tuition.
Kris. Why dont you continue with your thread on building a web page using your provider, your software, step by step and allow people who wish to follow your path, travel along it.
It would be very helpful and greatfully appreciated by many I'm sure.
Cheers
Hazel.
