    • RE: Drawing the Sun's Path?

1001Shadows doesn't appear to do the sun's path - just the shadow outlines. That might be useful in the future, but isn't quite what I'm looking for just now.

SunTools might work great, but it requires registering to download, which I'm not wild about.

    • Drawing the Sun's Path?

I'd like to illustrate the path of the sun in a model. I can turn on shadows and use the date & time picker to see where the shadows fall, but I can't figure out how to actually draw the path of the sun. A quick Google search returns some old (ca. 2009) plugins that do this, but nothing that looks recent.

Just wondering if anybody has an idea about how to do this?

    • RE: Curved Staircases

Garry - No change for me with the 1.0.6 version (although the load error has disappeared, but I think that was due to cruft in my plugins folder, which I cleaned out). Plugin loads fine, and I get the same string in the console:
      show 1
      loaded 1
      cb1 complete
      closed 1
      show 2
      cb1 complete
      loaded 2
      cb2 complete

Nothing else happens. Data fields are still blank, drop-downs aren't operational, and entering data in the fields and clicking OK doesn't cause anything to happen in the console window.

    • RE: Curved Staircases

Garry - I've already sent you this information offline, but I'm repeating it here for the record.

When I open SU, I immediately get the following error:

      Error Loading File GKWare_StairMaker_Ext.rb
      undefined method `call' for false:FalseClass

Open the Ruby Console, then select Plugins>Curved Stairs>Stair Maker, and I get this in the console:

      show 1
      loaded 1
      cb1 complete
      closed 1
      show 2
      cb1 complete
      loaded 2
      cb2 complete

Unless I'm mistaken, the "cb2 complete" shouldn't post to the console until I've hit the OK button, right?

Garry - Where do I get the updated version? I can't find a download link...

    • RE: Tips for Drawing a Floorplan?

Sometimes I start from scratch. Sometimes I start with an existing plan and trace. I'm mainly curious about setup; layers, groups, components, etc. Working in SU is so different than working in CAD that I want to make sure I'm not carrying over unnecessary baggage.

    • Tips for Drawing a Floorplan?

I'm curious about how some of you go about drawing floorplans. I'm certainly no pro, but I've been using SketchUp for a few years now and have a Pro license - so I have access to Layout. In AutoCAD, I would stay entirely on the Top view, drawing walls and doors and what-not in a more-or-less free-form fashion. I never did produce a 3D or isometric drawing.

I'm trying to use SketchUp to draw my next house, though, and I'm having a little trouble wrapping my head around the "workflow." What's the "proper" way to do it? Do you guys just start drawing walls on the top plane, offset by the wall thickness, and pull up to ceiling height? Do you build components, one room at a time?

Again, just curious. I've seen lots of cool-looking SketchUp-produced architectural drawings out there, but I have no idea how to create one of those. All I know how to do is draw floorplans.
