      Hi Everyone,

I've created a survey that asks a few questions about your computer. Not to worry, this survey is totally anonymous. If SketchUp is screaming fast on your computer, we want to know. If SketchUp barely runs at all, we want to know that too. If you have a number of
computers, new and old, feel free to take the survey multiple times. To view the survey, please visit the following page:

      (spreadsheets.google.com)

Once I have enough data, I'll post the results for everyone to see. With your help, this will be the most comprehensive collection of hardware feedback that's ever been gathered for SketchUp.
      .

Great Survey.. the final one is here: http://spreadsheets.google.com/ccc?key=pdV8e-LldOEpQw6k3-ovifg&hl=en

I'm looking at getting either a Geforce 8500GT Mg 512MB or upgrading to Geforce 9500GT Mg
512MB video card for a new PC (Core2 Quad, Asus P5 pro motherboard)... I'll be running Vista home premium.

After looking at the results in the survey I kind of wonder if I am heading in a safe direction with the 9500 GT videocard. Has anyone had "excellent" results with one of these using Vista?

      Tommy,

      Welcome.
Thank you for this survey. I think its a great idea.
I am currently using a VISTA Laptop (Core Duo 2.4, 4 gigs ram, NVIDA GeForece 8800M and Raid hard drives) and it handles SketchUp in ways I did not think was possible. I have very large models as well (1 million to 3 million faces) and it was jaw dropping. Its not perfect with Vista for something’s but I have a feeling the RAID is making a difference.

      Thank you
      Daniel Tal

How many MB are the models? We have models in the 40-60 MB range about 1 1/2 million edges & lots of component instances. My video card is NVIDIA Quadro 1400 FX.. I suspect it is the key problem for me at least. Our models would be next to impossible to simplify, but working in them right now is excruciating slow. We are due for new computers anyhow and are interested in getting the top of the line - or anything that will make life a little bit easier.

    • RE: GIS (ArcGIS / ArcView 9.x) and SketchUp 6.x - Comments

I have a shapefile with building footprint features, each with a building height and ground elevation. I am trying to import it cleanly into Sketch Up, but am having some difficulties. I get the whole selection part etc etc. I choose elevation from the elevation field, extrusion from the height field, etc. etc.

What happens whoever is that once the import is done and I am looking at it in Sketch up, most of it has not imported. I'd say that perhaps 25% of the footprints are showing & extruded.

I haven't been able to figure out why some import and most don't - I am wondering if there is something wring with the attributes. Does anyone know if there are guidelines to be followed for the field type, length etc? Any input or ideas would be appreciated. (I'd post screenshops but I don't know how to).

      Any suggestions? Thanks

      (PS am relatively new here)
