Two Radius intersecting at 90 degrees
-
Hi there, welcome to the forums here!
Group the half cylinder (that you want to extrude through the other one) and it will let you do it then. When finished, explode the group, do the intersections and delete unwanted geometry.
Cheers

Do I select the half cylinder and the other half cylinder to group? Or do I group the entire model?
Sorry for the amatuer questions.Nate
-
No, select only the one where you have the blue faces out. Select both the curved part and the (half) "top" part and group them.
This is to isolate that geometry from the rest of the model in order to be able to manipulate it independently.
(Then right click on any white face and "orient faces" so that you don't have back (blue) faces. Also heal that hole at the bottom and you can even delete the extra edges on top and bottom.)
-
could it not be more simply done with follow me?
-
It could also but this way it's just a couple of clicks, too.
-
So you are referring what I have selected in the picture?
-
No, here is what I'm referring.
True that if you select this front face too, it does no harm jst make sure you also select the ending half circle of your cylinder, too (I cannot see from this picture whether you have selected it or not). Also Edson is right; you could have done the whole thing with one snap; the follow me tool.

See ideas about the follow me tool [url=http://www.sketchucation.com/forums/scf/sas
/Newbie/Testing3.skp]here[/url].(OK Edson, I was concentrating on the current problem... )

thanks, csaba, for making the skippy i should have made (and did not from lazyness (50%) + involvement in a design competition for a large building in brasilia (50% more).
i had a hunch it would be easier with follow me.
cheers.

I'm not shure did I understand what do you want, maybe something like this?

Now that I can follow!
Thanks for the help!
I still never got the first solution to work.
-
Well, good then.
Although you could get it to work somehow because it is generally useful (often the Push/Pull tool just does not want to go through some geometry).
-
Without this forum I would have been STUCK!
That worked great and I'm very pleased with Sketchup. It is a remarkable piece of software. You can draw things much faster than I can in CAD. And its a 3D model. Unreal! Thanks again!

I think looking at the explanations, the reason you probably did not get the first method to work was the Intersection.
When you grouped the half of the model and then open the group to push/pull through the other piece. You then select that group, right click and explode.
Next step you select the whole model, right click, Intersect/Intersect with Model.
You can then delete the excess which will give you the desired result. That said, the follow me procedure you have already completed is far easier

Just find it http://www.nbxsoft.com/screen-recorder.php completly free,it's look like just like Quick Screen Recorder.

Dylan, see the thread about Camtasia (free now) here.
