I´m trying to get the Free Version of Google Sketchup for my daughter.
No way.
It installs as a Pro version with time limit in 8 hours.
Its a 31 Mb download so I guessed it was the right one.
But no.Who is in charge to get things running in this department ?
Do i have to go to the Google SketchUp Forums to get an answer ?
Home, Home, Home,
When we all unite again ? -
As far as I know, the Pro version does indeed time out after 8 hrs. But after that period, it magically transforms itself into the free version.
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
-
After it times out it becomes FREE! FREE! FREE! Unless of course it is on the same network as your Pro Verison. then if the two are booted simutaneously, You get this annoying "DO YOU WANT TO UPDATE YOUR AUTHORIZATION NOW? Popup, and when you say "no" the second system to boot version gets a big UNAUTHORIZED banner across the top. I guess this is because you can only have one pro version per license. How funny, I'll take the free version for all my extra computers. HAND

I started to think it was as you both say.
But then i thought, no. That is not clear. It would be confusing.Alas ¡¡¡
It is confusing.
Thankyou both.
Thanks. -

We are, Juan, the community, the mods, the admins...
But this is out of our scope and as you most probably know, this site has nothing to do with Google as a company - only via its members, let them be Google employees, beta testers, pro or free users.as for the Free Google sketchup, why don't you try to go to go to this page and choose the left choice (Google SketchUp 6 - instead of Google SketchUp 6 Pro on the right)?
Also, as you may probably know, SU 6 is now available in Spanish, too (you can try it here as well).
But here you will find your choice for sure.
Now if you try to use it on either the same network or the same computer, you may well have problems with it.

Hi Gai,
try for yourself those links you provide and you´ll find what I´m talking about.
It installs as a Pro version, not as a Free version.
As Stinkie and Rhankc says, once the 8 hours ends it magically transform in Free.
I have 6 hours left to confirm that.
If it is so, then it is confusing. It should clearly install as FREE.And about my question : Who is in charge to get things running in this department ?
of course i know it is not your fault neither people in here.
That is why I was claiming to unite again.cry in desert

Juan,
In the office I cannot install the Pro version (for a couple of reasons that don't belong here) so I could only install the free version. I do mean that the free version.
Now of course I cannot try any of those links since I'm at home with my Pro copy running on my computer and you cannot install both versions at the same time.
But FYI when I start the download of the Free version, it is 32 MB while the Pro version is 52 MB. That's a good 20 MB difference IMO. Obviously the exporters and LO are the "culprit" and what else if not this is the difference between the two versions?
Can it somehow happen that the pro version has once been installed on that computer but haven't been cleaned properly?
-
Is not, Gai.
The Free version installs as Pro.
And I´m doing it in a new laptop with no Pro installed.I´m thinking its been done on purpose by Google´s sales department.

Juan
If you let the 8 hour trial run out, it does lock the pro features and become the free version, trust me it works. I've done this, but then immediately bought pro as I need it for work.

Yes I know Jon.
What I´m saying is that it is confusing.
If you see in the page that you can download the Free version and once done you see it is the Pro version limited to 8 hours and there is no hint at all that running it through that time it becomes Free,
well,
that is confusingIt should not happen.

Hi Juan,
I went to http://sketchup.google.com/download.html and downloaded the Free version. I'm not immediately seeing the issue - I am getting the Free version and I don't have 8 hours of evaluation time. I agree it would be confusing to download Free and get the Pro product.
It is true though that if you download the Pro product and use your 8 hours of evaluation time, it will revert to the Free functionality - limited exporters and no LayOut. This is because, if you choose to buy the product later, all you need is a license as you already have all of the software you need to turn it into a Pro product. If however you know you never want to buy the Pro product you should get the Free product - the download is faster and you need not bother with seeing the evaluation dialog.
That sounds like what you tried to do but it is not working for you! I'm not sure what is happening. You are determining you have the Pro product because you see the Evaluation dialog - right? Did you download from the link above or did you go to some other link? It sounds like you already ruled out ever installing a Pro version on that machine - correct? And you're not running that machine on a network with Pro... One thing that would be interesting to check is whether you have a "LayOut" subdirectory under C:\Program Files\Google\Google SketchUp 6. That would be one indication that you truly got the Pro product...
Best regards,
Tricia

Thanks Juan for all of the answers. But I'm afraid that I'm REALLY confused now!
Would you mind doing one more thing? Could you post a screenshot of the Evaluation dialog you are seeing? That might provide some clues...
Thanks for helping us troubleshoot this one.

Hello Juan,
Excellent. I'm glad that all is working again. Yes, let's blame it on Papa Noel this time.
Happy holidays!
