It's actually really mewho has to (must) thank you Didier - I was the pushy one on this script.
I'm downloading it right away and try it!
Thanks a lot! (or did I already say that 😄)

                Edson,

You can have a list of xyz coordinates in a simple text file which you can import into SU as construction points.
In the old version there was then another script that made a (triangulated) mesh of these point.

This is good for creating terrains with exact measurements (I for instance use it to reconstruct different ground levels through history at archaeological sites).

However, Didier, something seems to be wrong with the script.

                • First of all when I open it, it does not look like a script at all just a bunch of lettes. OK, I'm not a programmer so maybe that's how it should look like (but also it may have gotten corrupted during uploading?).

                • When I launch it, it opens the dialogue but some of the options you mention (triangulation for instance) does not appear.

                • When finally trying to open the file, an error box pops up saying "Only 1 data per line. Aborting..." And of course no cloud at all though I'm sure there are all necessary three data inputs there in the file (I can make the mesh in SU5 with the old plugin).

                  Hi all,
I forgot to upload the updated version of 07.03.07 so here it is 😳
Please download and read the PDF too. Most answers to your questions are in there (I hope). 😄

Gaieus: the script is (simply) crypted. No edit possible (unless you have the decrypt method).
Triangulation is provided only when points have been imported (at the end of the script).
The "Only 1 data per line..." message occured with previous version when using a space delimiter. This have been fixed. Sorry for the inconvenience.

                  Regards,

                  DB

                    Didier, thanks a bunch!

Actually, I was somehow guessing that it was encrypted but not knowing too much either about programming or encrypting (and what you can and what you cannot), I didn't want to seem too blunt (I have played around encrypting html pages for instance).

Anyway, when I get home, I will give it another try. I hope (if not sure) that I'll be able to report succes.

                    Thanks again

Didier, thank you for this script. I seem to be having difficulty with it though. I get the dialog box and it tells me there will be 14 points imported. When I click on OK it goes immediately to the Select cursor which was selected before. No construction points are generated. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the carriage return character that is shown in the Line Sample. You can see it in the screen grab.

                        Dave,
You're right, there shouldn't be any CR at line end.
                        Just like this:
                        0,8,7
                        2,3.1,5
                        and so on.

Please send me the file just to check what's wrong with it. 😒

Excel CSV, Notepad, Wordpad, UltraEdit, Shalom, deliver correct ascii text files.
You can display and/or supress all unwanted CR with a lot of common text editors, for instance SciTE (see pic with regular carriage returns and line feeds on).
                        Hope this helps,

                            Didier,

I seem to be experiencing the same problem as Dave. I use Notepad++ and there is no such problem with SU 5 and the previous version of your script. In the "Line sample..." of the dialogue box there is that edn character though, as well, and the script does not create any point cloud.

                              Hi all!

I'm making a model of the roman forum, and i have found the geospacial data of most of its buildings on this site:

                              http://dlib.etc.ucla.edu/projects/Forum/geospatial

Is this the sort of data that this script uses? and can anyone help me with converting these into a skp file??

                              tks.

                                Hi Pedro (not mistaken?)!

Yes, exactly this is the script you could use.
I went to the link you provided, copied the data and inserted it into a plain text editor. There you need to get rid of the tab signs and the double spaces only and you're ready to convert your data file (a plain text file) into a cloud of points.

I only have this problem with getting the script to work. The previous version worked well on my SU5 but now there seems to be some problem - maybe with the ending character at the end of each line.

Didier posted a pdf file, too, on the "how-to"s of the script. Please, read it and see the details.

Thank you so much for the script.

When I tried it, the triangulated data (.csv file) came in at about 45 degrees to horizontal. Any ideas why?

                                  Ben

                                    Hi,
Yes there sure is a bug remaining in the script when used with V6.
I MUST find it (as soon as I have V6 installed). For some reason I cannot download it from the Google site, because I have installed it one time, then uninstalled, and now nothing works when I install it again, it says it is v5.2.061 or something. 😡 👿 😡
Good someone PLEEEAAASE provide me a link where I can download the free v6 installer ? But not the official link, I have tried it several times with no sucess...
I will find the bugs of my scripts ASAP then !
                                    Cheers,

I have found what was not really a bug. Option providers have been changed in SU6 so the variable handling your current unit was nil.
I will release the updated script tomorrow (I'm home now 😉
