It may be a known already for you guys but I have just stumbled upon this "new" toy: eDrawings Plugin for SketchUp.
It creates interactive 3D presentations of SU modells in various formats (it native format / *.exe - with a "built in" viewer - which can be sent to anyone who trusts you / htm for the www - unfortunately only works in IE).

The result is similar to that the Hypercosm Player or 3D PDF files.

There is a "free" version with limited capabilities (limited to the viewing and sharing options) and a "pro" version with some useful features for architects / clients / whoever to follow and interactively comments etc. the workflow.

      Here's a quick test of it: http://www.gaieus.hu/su/edraw
You can try the htm file - only with Internet Exporer (5.5 or higher)
or if you trust me, also the exe file (download it and check for viruses to make sure...)

I guess it should work just by opening it.

        Two further comments:

        1. the tool givesw a shiny glow to the faces that can be nice when seeing a car for instance but for a rough stone surface it may seem weird at first.

        2. I was wondering why the shadow is displayed on one side like on the face of a "wall". Now I came to the result that if the model is created in SU5 (as is the case with my mausoleum) and exported from SU6, the plugin screws up the axes and cast the shadow in a funny way. Newer files behave coerrectly.

I went to have a look Gaieus but it insisted that I download the program to view. I started downloading and realised that it was going to take over 3 hours 😒 I'm on dialup here, can't get Broadband, a problem that most of rural New Zealand suffers from, why did that silly Government of ours sell all the Telecomunications to those bl**dy Yanks? πŸ‘Ώ But not to worry, it's another day tomorrow πŸ˜† Keep up the good work, I love your posts and this Forum Rocks!
          Regards Bill.

Bill, that's sad. The company's page declares that with the exe file you don't need to download anything else - the viewer is "included" (indeed, the file itselfis rather big this way).

Hm... need to further examine the plugin...

I'll go back and have another crack at it, it's 1:50AM here and maybe I did something wrong. Then I'll go to bed.
              Cheers Bill.
PS It's about to snow here, what happened to Global Warming?

And it's raining here. But I have to say finally!
We didn't have snow at all last winter. Didn't really mind 'cause when we do, it's always just slushy (at least in town).

I'm here again. πŸ˜’ It's the ActiveX thingy that's taking all the time. 200 mins and still counting up! I'll leave it running and go to bed with the covers pulled up. If my connection doesn't throw out I should have something to look at later. Thank you Gaieus and good night from snowy and cold NZ. C'mon summer πŸ˜„

I like the idea... but the interface is kinda reversed on everything... from SU... meaning... the mouse scrolls in reverse and rotates in reverse... it's kinda like drving your car backwards... hard to do for very long

but kool to have 3D without having to open SU

For a client (or anyone without SU routines) it's all the same actually, where and how we orbit in SU. The point is that you don't need SU - and many times it is an advantage if you don't want to give away your model.

I got it to work - but I don't see the point.

If you are going to download all the active-X etc you might as well download the sketchup viewer.

The point is you don't need to send/give your model to whoever wants to see it. Information secure to a fair extent.

Surely Hypercosm has more capabilities - and when on the web, its player works with more browsers - yet eDrawing has one advantage; it can run on a standalone app. (though true that only in Windows...)

                            Well, anyway. Just another tool.

you can say that twice. edrawings does not open a small to medium sized file. i had it and recently threw it away for its utter uselessness.

being more specific, since i do not use nor own autocad, edrawings seemed to be the ticket to viewing dwg files before importing them but every time i have tried to open a medium sized file with it, it crashed on me.

it could be just the mac version, though.

Edson, what are you using to open DWG's? I, too, have had limited success with edrawings, though not as bad as you are experiencing, but I haven't found a better solution.

                                        Cheers, Chuck
