A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members

Hello you all!
I'd like to introduce myself. I live near Frankfurt (Germany) and like Sketchup since about 3 years, for profession as well as for private works (furniture and inner-buildings etc).
Now i found this forum... ...so i hope to get better.I'm very sorry for my bad and childish english; i'm not used to it.
And i've got a stupid question, it's my first download of a ruby.
I think, i'm a typical layer-8-problem :i downloaded 'shape bender' (thx to the programmer!), and as demanded 'progressbar'.
In the .zip, there is a lone-standing file named clf_shape_bender_loader.rb,
and in this file following is shown:
require 'sketchup.rb'
require 'extensions.rb'
require 'progressbar.rb'Ok, the first means to activate the ruby-console, right?
But what does extensions mean? Another necessary download?
And do i have to unzip all, or just drag and drop this loader-file?Thx for patience...

Hi Oskar and first of all, welcome!
Extensions means that you will need to activate the plugin after you install it under Window > Preferences > Extensions. It also comes with a one-button toolbar that you can activate under View > Toolbars once you activated it and restarted SU.

Any advice is welcome. -
Well, D_russ:
While everyone else is napping, welcome.
I am an Autocad user, too. But there are plenty of others here and they use a lot of other 2d and 3d programs, as I am sure you know.
You just ask away. Take some time to become familiar with the Forum. -

I have trouble when I try to login this forum...
everytime I'll try to login always said "You have been banned from this board until Mon Apr 18, 2011 8:59 am.
Please contact the Board Administrator for more information.
A ban has been issued on your IP address."
till now the solution for log in in this forum is browsing from ninjacloak.com
can anybody help me? -
Hi Indrasukma,
I rarely ban IP addresses and if I do, I only do with static IP's and only for a limited time - so that I do not ban innocent people. When I do ban an IP, it is generally when multiple spambot registrations came from that IP.
Now I can imagine that I made a mistake and banned one that I should not have banned. Please, let me know what your IP address is (if you do not know, visit this site and it says at the top right) and do not write it here but send me a private message (you should not share your IP address - just like your email address).
You can also send me an email message from here.
Edit: I have excluded the IP you registered with from the ban list so maybe this whole contacting is unnecessary.

Hi Oil and welcome to SCF!

Hi all
I've managed to design a single storey lean-to extension for the side of my house in Devon (UK) on Sketchup Pro 8 free version, and I think it's good enough to send to the planning department without the need for an architect. Planning will accept electronic pdf drawings which saves sending 4 hard copies of everything, but insist on the drawing being on an A3 sheet, to scale, with a scale bar, so they can print them out and put a ruler on the plans to measure anything that's not dimensioned. I'll need Layout to do this so I was going to purchase it. I see Sketchup Pro8 costs ยฃ330+VAT for a single licence @ Sketchupprostore, but following sponsored links from tutorial books sold on Amazon I have seen the licence for ยฃ285+VAT @ facade-it, and ยฃ255+VAT @ softwareparadise. Does anyone know if these are genuine or fraudulent resellers, and if genuine are you getting the same software/contract?Thanks in advance, Andy.

Hi,
Welcome to SCF. Have you tried downloading the SU8 Pro trial? It last 8hrs so you might have enough time to make your plan in Layout.

Thanks Rich, Yes I have but then I discovered 'The Sketchup Show' tutorials on YouTube so I've been making my way through those and already used up my 8 hours of Pro trial. I'm afraid that Exeter City Council Planning are never happy and the planning process takes months/years!! there are bound to be alterations and that have to be made so nice thought but in reality it just isn't going to be sorted in 8 hours. I don't begrudge the money if it saves on the cost of an Architect which would certainly cost more, but why pay ยฃ400 if you can get the same software for ยฃ300?
