A Welcome Message to New SketchUcation Members
-
Hi Everyone in SketchUcation, I have used this forum in the past to learn about SketchUp and did not post messages because I was learning what I needed for my simple project. I designed what I will call a shelf system for my shed that I bought from Suncast. The project came out great. I knew how many 2 x 4's to buy and angle cuts needed and how much OSB to buy and how to cut it. After using AutoCad, I found SketchUp very user friendly. I plan to design and build my own shed. I see a lot of sheds in the warehouse, but I cannot find an example for me to get good ideas from. I plan to use lots of layers and turn every part into a component. I hope in the end that it will be a great model for members to get ideas from and show off what SketchUp can do. Keep Drawing, Joe

Hi All,
Modelling my house for an ambitious extension application. I'm learning fast but need a better place to find good textures and models, because the 3D warehouse is useless.
I hope to contribute how I can.

I'm pretty new to skp, but it is already opening new doors for me; out of the prototype workshop, off the tools and into a world of quicker design results. A lot to learn, but this platform is proving useful from the get go.

Hi everibody. just signed in.
I was looking for somthing to reduce mi model dimensions and saw Cleanup plugin by thomthom.
i'm working for my accademy thesis on a reconstruction of my quartieer (first time of using SU) with much image file inside. I'm at half work now an my file is over 400MB... SU start havin moments of stop very often. maybe i have to buy a new graphic card because i need to show my project during the thesis makin a walk inside the model...
Thank for this assistance -
Hi Hikako and welcome!
Indeed TT's Cleanup plugin is one of the best in that category!
As for images: note that by default, SU will only display images up to 1024x1024 pixels (or double of this size if you enable large image files under your Preferences) so anything that is bigger, can safely be resized for SketchUp. 400 Mb is extremely large - and I doubt that any new card would help much.

Hello Everyone,
My name is Chris, I've been haphazardly using/learning SU since ver. 5. I had gave up many times along the way as it seemed to difficult and confusing, not to mention time consuming, to learn and use. Glad to say I consider myself between novice and intermediate user now. I recently discovered the updated video tutorials, started watching those from the beginning again, they helped tremendously. I highly, highly, recommend these to anyone using SU new or old, they are so much better than the old vids, and give a whole different approach to SU use. Lurking around this site has taught me many tips and tricks, and now starting to discover plug-ins and other resources which will come in handy. Thank You SketchUcation!!!

Hi Katt and Chris and welcome. If you have any problems, do not hesitate to ask questions. There are no "stupid" questions in the newbie forum!

Hi All,
Ben here, I've been using Sketchup Pro for now more than a year by now to design industrial plants for my company and produced construction documents with Layout. My colleagues are stunned by the possibilities and the quality of the produced documents.
Cheers

Hello,
This is my first post....exciting! I am an interior designer and work with Sketchup Pro. I am looking for a sketchup developer who can create a custom plugin for an application that would be in a 2D format (not an overhead view but rather an elevation/foreground view, something like a one-point, straight-on perspective). In using Sketchup we find that, although possible to create a wall elevation from a 3D model, it is a bit challenging as the image seems to want to convert back to 3D. Anyway, if there is anyone out there that is interested or knows of someone to work with on our project, I would appreciate it.
I'm looking forward to participating in this exciting format!
Thank you in advance,
Cheryl Howard

This is my first post on Sketchucation -- I've been helped out so many times by just Googling in my problem and getting a Sketchucation forum page, that I thought finally I should just sign up and start participating in the community. This is the first forum I've ever joined.
I've also started uploading models to the 3D Warehouse for the first time as well as a way of giving back.
I'm part of a tiny design house in Bangkok, Thailand doing mainly interior design projects around Asia, but also many side projects.
Thanks for reading...

Hi All, just joined SkethUcation today and hoping to get a good skethucation here! sorry about the pun. Am pretty new to sketchup and have been practicing modelling in it for the last few months and got a good start on the basics by going through the tutorials on the Harwood podcasts which can be found on you tube...around 55 of them!! Fantastic for beginners like me.Am now getting to grips with the 3d modelling but would now like to make presentations in LayOut, which I'm finding a little harder. The main problem I have is saving the appropriate scenes in SU, ie section cuts principally, so I'm hoping to pick up some tips here.

Hello,
I'm new to SketchUcation and I've been using SU Pro for about three years.
I'm an interior designer and casual architect and I also enjoy furniture design, landscape design, industrial design, the fine arts, etc..
A few of you may recognize me from my previous posts to the Help Forum and my occasional frustrations with SU; fortunately, with help from more experienced users as well as my tenacity to try to figure things out, my SU use has been very gratifying.
I currently use SU nearly every day and have had great success utilizing Layout to create construction documents. The benefit I've derived from SU has been immense and whenever I show an architect, designer, engineer, tradesperson, technician or co-worker the intended design (walk-though and rotate), they say, "Wow, that's a really useful tool!"
I look forward to catching up on my reading here and I promise I'll try to not be frustrated online when I encounter something I think SU should be able to do, or do with more effectiveness.

Hi all and welcome!
@Dean: post your scene frustrations in a separate topic (so it does not get buried here). BTW you are talking about SU scenes in LO however your profile says you have SU Free. Is it the trial period?

I'm trying out Layout on the free trial to see how I get on with it. Will search through the forums for tips. At the moment I'm trying to find a good method of getting floor plans and sections from my model in SU into Layout.
Thanks
Dean
