Hi to all from Canada's Capital - Ottawa Ontario. Permit me to introduce myself, BSintzel.

I've come to this forum to share with (and learn from,) other forum members. From what I've experienced so far, this forum includes a 'lot' of good folk that share my belief that there are no stupid questions, just stupid answers. This has been my mantra throughout my career. That said, I look forward to sharing what I know with others, and learning a bit more each day by asking, what some may consider, dumb questions.

My background is somewhat varied, as I've been around for a long time (62 years) and I have enjoyed careers ranging from aircraft and auto mechanic, Mechanical Engineering Technologist, Lotus Notes developer, ER Modeler and scientific programmer at Canada's National Research Council (NRC).

My experience with computer-aided modeling has been mostly limited to parametric modeling with 3DS Solidworks. Although intellectually challenging, I found that Solidworks didn't meet my 'rapid/low-cost' modeling needs. Since discovering Sketchup a year ago, I've found that I can achieve most (if not all) of my home design goals without having to endure a steep learning curve, or paying a fortune in software fees.

I've used Sketchup to successfully model my new deck prior to building it. I'm now using Sketchup to to model my new kitchen and living room before I renovate them. That said, I've found myself up to my neck in an organic modeling conundrum that I'm hoping more experienced Sketchup enthusiasts can offer some guidance in solving.

Specifically, I've been modeling a brass & glass end table. All was going well until I tried modeling the table's feet. As shown in the attached photos, they are are truly organic in design. I'm not entirely cerTable foot- side viewTable foot- front viewtain if I can continue forward using Sketchup to model them. If there is anyone who can offer some suggestions on what plugin or technique to use to successfully model these feet, I would be very appreciative.

      Warm regards

I've taken obfuscating to a whole new level!

Welcome BSintzel! Try posting a thread on this in the Organic Modelling forum and see if any ideas come up. Good luck. Nice background idea 😉.

            Happy modeling.

Hello everyone! I'm TheAmateurArtist, but feel free to call me Ethan. I really want to go into 3D modelling for video games and that's what lead me to SketchUp. I hope to learn all that there is to know when it comes to modelling and, maybe, I'll share some of my creations on here.

                  Hi,

I have been using sketchup now for 3 years, and have been a committed sketchup forum stalker! Always searching for news and information about my drawing program of choice! The last 12 months have seen my sketchup use increase and there for my need for efficient and particular results have also changed. I can now no longer be a closet sketchup forum stalker! So here I am!

Looking forward to being involved, in order to keep learning, and improving my sketchup and layout skills.

                  Cheers,

                  P.

Hi Everyone in SketchUcation, I have used this forum in the past to learn about SketchUp and did not post messages because I was learning what I needed for my simple project. I designed what I will call a shelf system for my shed that I bought from Suncast. The project came out great. I knew how many 2 x 4's to buy and angle cuts needed and how much OSB to buy and how to cut it. After using AutoCad, I found SketchUp very user friendly. I plan to design and build my own shed. I see a lot of sheds in the warehouse, but I cannot find an example for me to get good ideas from. I plan to use lots of layers and turn every part into a component. I hope in the end that it will be a great model for members to get ideas from and show off what SketchUp can do. Keep Drawing, Joe ☀

                              Hi All,

Modelling my house for an ambitious extension application. I'm learning fast but need a better place to find good textures and models, because the 3D warehouse is useless.

I hope to contribute how I can.

I'm pretty new to skp, but it is already opening new doors for me; out of the prototype workshop, off the tools and into a world of quicker design results. A lot to learn, but this platform is proving useful from the get go.

                                      Hi Hikako and welcome!

Indeed TT's Cleanup plugin is one of the best in that category!

As for images: note that by default, SU will only display images up to 1024x1024 pixels (or double of this size if you enable large image files under your Preferences) so anything that is bigger, can safely be resized for SketchUp. 400 Mb is extremely large - and I doubt that any new card would help much.

                                      Gai...

                                          Hello Everyone,

My name is Chris, I've been haphazardly using/learning SU since ver. 5. I had gave up many times along the way as it seemed to difficult and confusing, not to mention time consuming, to learn and use. Glad to say I consider myself between novice and intermediate user now. I recently discovered the updated video tutorials, started watching those from the beginning again, they helped tremendously. I highly, highly, recommend these to anyone using SU new or old, they are so much better than the old vids, and give a whole different approach to SU use. Lurking around this site has taught me many tips and tricks, and now starting to discover plug-ins and other resources which will come in handy. Thank You SketchUcation!!!
